apparently there is going to be a meteor shower tonight after 11pm, so there will be loads of shooting stars. Probably be cloudy.

yeah its every year around the 12th august. Its the 'persieds' meteor shower (so called because they appear to emanate from the Persied constellation) which are actually debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet that the Earth travels through. Fortunately this year it coincides with a new moon so the skies are darker.
I wil be laying in my garden from about 11pm for an hour or so, they reckon we'll see about 100 'shooting stars' per hour, but from my previous experience you're rather lucky to see but a few. And its clear skies here (hertforshire) so I got a good chance this year. yaay. Very Happy

Start watching from 11 pm, when the constellation of Perseus rises in the north east of the sky. That's where the meteor showers will be coming from.
Mars marks the spot -- you will see Mars as a bright red star in the north east of the sky.
