Home >> Anything else >> Legalise it???????
29.11.2007, 20:45 quote
Can I use that as an excuse in court?
"Yes, your honour, God himself told me that Cocaine is safe and not addictive AND should be legalised......"
There are two basic types of addiction, physical and mental.
I think, that physical addiction can and does affect everyone equally, but mental addiction mainly affects people of a certain type of personality, and also appears in non-addictive as well as addictive drugs.
Cocaine IS addictive and hardly safe, but then if you eat too many carrots, it's probably not good for you either.......
29.11.2007, 21:04 quote
As I said, I am not an expert, but to my knowledge PURE Cocaine does not make addicted and has not negative side effects if you use small amounts in a reasonable way.
The problem is:
1. people use Cocaine that contains more other substances and chemicals then cocaine
2. they consume too much and want more and more....and the amount they need increases and this way they reach a level that is unhealthy or even dangerous. If you wait for a couple of weeks you can get the same effect again with a small portion without having to increase the amount - I have read.
A famous drug dealer that has recently come out of prison after 15 years has written a book about th drug business and also about Cocaine and other drugs etc...don't think I consume Cocaine myself - I don't even know people who take Cocaine personally. I only see some that obviously had too much drugs once in a while in certain nightclubs.
About Cannabis:
Most people I know from Univesity that smoked Cannabis quited after university or even after the second or third year. Some because they noticed the negative effects on the brain... or as they got bored of it.
UPDATE
Ok, forgot what I have just written. I have done some more detailled research.
About 6% of the people who take Cocaine die of a heartattack. (However, I don't know whether it is because they take too much or because this is a general negative side effect...)
And 30% (!!!) suffer from angina pectoris.which leads to a lack of blood near the heart muscle.
Your blood pressure rises and in general a heart-attack is the main danger of Cocaine.
Even the first-time and single usage could lead to a heart-attack.
So don't try it!
29.11.2007, 21:24 quote
Now that sounds more like the god I'm used to....
But I still think that it is funny for god to say Cocaine is not all that bad!
29.11.2007, 21:29 quote
I think:
- Cocaine has a slightly worse image then it "deserves" (although it IS bad).
But assuming doctors and specialists were present that determine exactly the right amount for your body and observed you all the time, this might be better then smoking Cannabis.
- artificial drugs (colourful pills etc. people sell in nightclubs) have a too good image although they are probably the worst kind of drugs
- Cannabis has a far too positive image
- alcohol has a negative image in the USA although not alcohol as such is the problem, but other problems people suffer from and just resort to alcohol or as their social environment / society forces them to drink too much.
- cigarettes have had a too positive image but now people become more aware
- chocolate has a bad image in the UK as British chocolate IS unhealthy as it contains hardly any "chocolate" - but property chocolate itself is not unhealthy and even has some positive effects - unless you eat too much and don't brush your teeth.

Personally I suppose that I am anti-drugs cos I don't do them, and I do have the choice to, and choose not to.
But I think everyone has the right to choose if they wish to do them or not.
(I don't think that I have to say really that drugs ARE bad for you, it's kinda obvious innit?)

My earlier post here was based purely on my personal observations at work - but in my own personal life, well when one of my sons was 15 yrs old his soft drink was spiked with rhohypnol and heroin - by some kids that thought it would be a laugh, he was their target cuz he has Aspergers and was 'a little different' shall we say - and apparently they were high on pot at the time.....He nearly died and has suffered terrible psychological traumas since as a result, so straight from the heart my emotional response is Keep all drugs illegal, including cannabis.
27.06.2008, 21:06 quote
OK, so I am bored, and I have just watched a Sky News Special on the debate about legalising Cannabis.
I have had a quick look through this topic and noticed that a lot of the people who originally posted here are gone.
Since we have loads of new members, I thought it would be a great time to revive this one, cos it is a cool topic for discussion.....
So, legalise it???????
27.06.2008, 21:11 quote
Bury it all. Been there, done that and it's crap. Don't think it'll affect you negatively - think again.

Well, just a few days ago me and my son mentioned above (who is 20 next month) were telling his girlfriend about this event, and he started crying and couldn't stop. So did we, it was awful to realise it still haunts him.
So yeah, my response is still to make ALL drugs illegal.

Yep, same here.
I didn't think it would effect me, but long term it did. (Talking about smoking pot here)
But when I say legalise it, I am thinking more along the lines of for medical purposes, rather than recreational use.
Currently in America a few states have legalised medical pot with licenced 'pharmacies' for people who can medically benefit from taking the drug.
Actually these places get busted by the DEA because they don't recognise state laws, which is really bizarre.
But there seems to be real medical benefits to a wide range of people in using it, so why not?
If alcohol was suddenly discovered now, would that be allowed? Now THAT is what I would class as a harmful drug.
I reckon that it is different from any other illegal drug, because it does (seem to) have real benefits to its use.....
28.06.2008, 12:21 quote
Well it's not the only one with medical benefits.

I love that article
(Came across that whilst searching for an entirely different one that I can't find about how easy it is to get a prescription. Irritated that I can't find it. grrr.)
As for alcohol they keep finding more and more medical benefits for that too, well certain forms of it anyway. Mainly wine for some reason, still I doubt they look for the benefits of Special Brew to closely.
(Found the other article
)

| Getting on for 250,000 Californians are said to carry prescriptions for medicinal marijuana, and who knows how many of them - like me - suffer from little more than the occasional bout of self-doubt. |
It mentions vending machines, these are covered in more detail here. Seems very odd.

And like you say the federal laws still forbid it, the USA is an odd place.
