Are you for or against legalising pot? Why? Have you tried it and based your opinion on it from that, or do just believe what 'they' tell you about it?
27.10.2007, 17:02 quote
I'd say legalise it .. its not any worse than alchohol
...........but dont smoke and drive.
27.10.2007, 17:07 quote
I used to smoke years ago when I was about 18 , I used to be a bit of a rogue, I'd try anything at least once but I'm a good boy now.
27.10.2007, 17:12 quote
I've never tried it, but being an MS sufferer i know how good it can be for the pain, and know that some of my friends here, who have MS, would benefit greatly.
I 'understand' that it can make you psychotic, so would be scarred to try it, no matter how bad the pain is.
But, i do say legalise it.

My mum used to be the Chairman of our local MS society, and she said that loads of people there used to smoke it for medicinal purposes, so it must have it's uses, but it is a shame they would have to visit the local drug dealer to get it....

After a breeak of 20 years or so, I've started to share a days-end spliff last thing at night, so I'd have to vote for it's legalisation wouldn't I?

When I gave up smoking, I was stoned and said to all me mates 'That's my last spliff' , they all had laughing fits, but I haven't had even a toke for over 10 years now, I don't miss it really, just when you smoke it regular is does mess with your head a bit, a little puff at the end of the day wouldn't mess you up I'd imagine, so why not?
(All my mates still smoke though........)
27.10.2007, 17:58 quote
I don't think it should be legalised. If they legalise that, they might aswell legalise other drugs, too.
Personally, I have never tried it. I do know the effects it can have on people though. And it isn't what i've 'heard' about it - it's what I have SEEN.

i tried it once and didnt like it, over the years i have seen people who use it go down hill. I favour a healthy as possible lifestyle and it just cant be good for you to do that stuff
so i would have to say no to legalising it.

Well, I suppose I stopped by choice, but used to love it, but now I don't think I would like it anymore, so I don't. But I don't think that it is the pot that can mess you up, but what it can lead to.
A lot of people I know only started in the first place because it was 'only a spliff', some went on to much heavier stuff, which definately DOES mess you up, such is the power of the peer group.
27.10.2007, 18:14 quote
But alcohol messes your head up just as much .. i do have a smoke now and again, but i mean like one on a friday or saturday night. its when you depend on it to get you through the day like alcoholics do with drink thats when it becomes a problem
27.10.2007, 18:17 quote
Well, here's one for you next time you have a smoke, try playing a quick game of Connect 4, it'll take about 3 hours and you'll feel like you are determining the fate of two small countries..........

Sorry, I wasn'y trying to push people into it, Connect 4 isn't that great.
I would say if you haven't tried it then you've made the right choice, as there is no way of knowing how it will affect you, well mentally anyway, and long term affects are the biggest problem.
So anyone who is thinking about trying a smoke should probably go and do something more productive, failing that you could always try snorting Jack Daniels, it's legal but it burns like hell...........
27.10.2007, 18:58 quote
Legalise it. In fact legalise all of them. There are far worse perfectly legal and socially acceptable drugs out there.
The hypocrisy of a government that can outlaw cannabis yet keep tobacco legal is pretty astounding. The only reason that tobacco is kept legal is that it generates a huge tax revenue (arguably more than enough to cover the damage it causes) and there would be a massive public outcry if it was outlawed, and whichever party was in at the time probably wouldn't be there come the next general election. All that keeping drugs illegal does is create huge public spending for a fight that can never be won.
The government would do well to look at the history books if you want to see what happens when you make a popular drug illegal. Just take a look at The Prohibition; which gave organised crime a huge boost, pissed a lot of people off, cost a huge amount of money to enforce (and with no alcohol to tax to pay for it...well, you get the picture) and saw the government cave in after only 13 years. Ironically it made alcoholism even worse as those in need of a drink turned to hard liquor as it was easier to make and therefore easier to get hold of. So yeah, that was a really good idea.
People will try drugs whether they're legal or not. So rather than fill the already fit to bursting prisons with trivial criminals (because banging up some guy for possession or someone knocking out a bit of homegrown is really going to put a dent in the international drugs trade isn't it?) why not just let people make an informed choice. If the powers that be had any brains they could see that not only could they save money, but they could probably make money in the long run. The moment it becomes legalised it can be taxed in the same bracket as tobacco and alcohol, and everyones a winner.
