Bored at my part time work I wrote a few spreadsheets in Excel to show how easy things could be made with the runing of the shop. The boss was so impressed he asked if I wanted to put together a complete database system for all three shops.

Overwhelmed with the oportunity I pointed out to him that I have just finished my studies, he said it was all good. Which means I get to build my first DB project and will put me in good stance to futher my chosen career.

Still in need for money I went for an interview for a part time back office worker in a hotel. Turns out the hotel has 50 rooms, a gastronomic restaurant, a brasserie, 2 large dining halls, a bike rental, a chocolate shop and a swimming pool.

At the interview for this part time office job he said he does not want to hire me and offered me hotel assistant manager position instead.

I don't know i just don't know.

That would of been my tonight I post.

When I saw the subject title I thought it was about what hand everyone writes with so I was surprised to find it had nothing to do with it.

What is the attraction of the hotel assistant manager job? If it's just about money what are the chances of becoming full-time at your current job so that you are still able to pursue your career?

It certainly sounds like your boss is impressed with you. What is he willing to do to keep you as part of his business?

and in answer to what I originally thought it was about - both.

I believe things happen for a reason.
I think if I went for an interview as a Part Time Back Office Worker and came out having been offered (Full Time?) Hotel Assistant Manager.....I know which way I'd jump.
Talk about handed something new on a plate!
But that depends on your chosen career. What's that?
Is it your chosen career because its something you think would be easy to achieve if you keep your nose to the grindstone - and do all the right stuff, like impress the boss with a database?
You dont sound totally uninterested in the hotel job, you even have it ingrained in you exactly what they have - how many rooms, chocolate shop etc.
Assistant Manager of a hotel, the experience will get you a job virtually no literally anywhere in the world and bloody good salary yes salary not wages.
Again though, depends on how different this is to your chosen career and how badly you want that.
Let us know what you decide!!!

The contracts were signed last night after negotiations, all weekends are guaranteed free with my kids, school holidays too, summer vacations to be arranged. Fixed shift patterns and hours, five days a week, salary plus expenses and bonus. A few extra perks too, like travelling expenses. I walk, so am bieng paid to walk to work! There are no fixed holiday times, I *just* choose when and for how long I take holiday/breaks. Paid. It all sounds too good to be true I know, karma I guess, all good things come to those who wait, things happen for a reason as you mentioned RG. I looked for catches and normaly find them if they exist, but no. My intuition says he (the owner) is fair and true. It seems like a win win situation. I don't like bieng too convinced and confident as then you tend to not see the bumps in the road. Anyway, contracts are now signed and all is good. One more thing, the position is not Assistant Hotel Manager it is in actual fact Managing Director. Thanks for the words of encouragement rocketgirl, I have always listened to what you have to say even if we didn't always see eye to eye.

Shall we have a party thread?.....drinking & chatting at the same time

I do it on Fridays, normally alone, could be fun if others join in

Thanks everyone, I hope that all the info I sent to LV will help just as much, especially the point-wave-crystal document. I had written it for myself and helped immensly, I wish equal success on LV.
