Laughing Laughing Like it.

Just two last points I wish to make.

1) People were saying that if you do not wish to read about Jade Goody, then you don't have to buy the magazine/newspaper. Well I buy my paper on a sunday in order to read the previous days Albion match, or football in general. In exchange, I get Jade Goody rammed down my throat.

2) One of the main problems with this issue is that because of the tragic nature of her death, and the fact that two innocent children are now without a mother from a young age, a lot of people argue solely on emotions. They cannot seperate this from a debate on the womans merits.

Thankyou for listening.

On the same note, I buy a paper to read about gossip and scandal! And oh my gawd shock horror there happens to be sport in there also (usually quite a bit of the paper taken up by it too). I just choose not to read it cos it doesnt interest me. My money is just as good as yours so the paper should cater for what I want to read too surely? Do the same with the Jade/celebrity stuff...don't read it and just read your footie stuff

Completely correct Jegs...think that was the point some of us ahave been trying to convey throughout Laughing
****************************************************

to get back on topic since the topic is entitled Jade Goody, I didnt actually realise that their was a programme on Living TV last night about Jade or I would have been watching it (was too busy disagreeing with Andrew Laughing Laughing). Luckily it's back on on Saturday at 10pm so I will be able to watch it then. There is also another one on in a couple of weeks. It's looking back on everything she has done. It's called Jade: With Love. Just a bit of info for those of us who choose and want to read and watch.

Point 1) You are saying you get jade goody rammed down your throat when you want to read about your footie.
Clearly this annoys you, which is an emotion (if it didnt you wouldnt bother mentioning it)....
You have shown a very emotional response to jade not deserving fame as well.......which, all in all, cancels out your point number 2 because you are just as guilty of using emotion as a basis for your points of view.

I think they would suss the name or know outright, CNN, New York Times, US Metro all followed the story of the dying UK reality TV star.

I read a JG Ballard story from the 70's recently...in it Movie Star & ex President, Ronald Reagan's(fictionalised) decline is being followed. It's decided to broadcast his weakening heart rate in a caption in the corner of TV screens. At one point the viewers realise he's watching the same program as them, as rate and pattern starts to react with the love story on screen. He is humanised though this odd tecnique, and veiwers begin to identity with him in new ways; massive audiences tune in to watch the heart rather than the scheduled programs; as the heart improves... then falters. His transmission stops, he is greatly mourned, and mytholigised

Ooops, I didn’t make what I meant very clear – I meant people outside of the UK knowing who she was for her ‘celebrity’ status as a BB contestant (and subsequent activities), rather than as an unfortunate young woman who was dying from an incurable illness (and the media interest in that aspect).

I’d put money on my opinion that prior to be told she had cancer, and the ensuing media interest, that relatively few people outside of the UK knew who she was.

I couldn’t name a single BB contestant from another country’s show even if there was a million quid hanging on the answer (in fact, I don’t think I could name more than 2 or 3 from this country since the show started here).

I am not getting angry that it is in the papers, it was simply a counterpoint to you all saying it could be avoided. Even though I do not read the articles, the headlines are impossible to avoid.

I was not saying that it shouldn't be in the papers, merely that if I wanted one I could not avoid it.

I am not angry over Jade not deserving her fame. It saddens me that society allows this to happen, but I am not angry about that.

My anger comes when I am trying to argue my points but everybody keeps missing them (intentionally or not), and then fights them with information that has nothing to do with the argument I am presenting. I am frustrated that peoples grief for somebody that none of them know personnally is clouding their judgement. And I am frustrated that people can turn round and say "But I didn't say that", when they clearly did, and after doing all that believe that they have the upper hand in the debate.

I'm done. Don't even bother replying to this because I'm not even going to look at this topic so don't bother replying to this. I am walking away and washing my hands of it.
