I know this is going to be a vey emotive subject but the news coverage given to Jade Goodys illness really upsets me. I know it is very selfish but as someone with a parent currently dying of cancer, it fucks me off that we have an outpouring of national grief for someone who is famous simply because they were on a reality TV show. I know that this seems incredibly heartless of me and for that I apologise. My heart goes out to her and her children and I applaud her actions in seeing that her children are well looked after but I think anyone dying of cancer should be well looked after whether they are in the public eye or not.

Apologies for grammar etc. I only had the courage to write this rather emotive post when I had a few drinks. I don't expect any other posts but I just needed to get it of my chest.

Ah I have had this conversation with many people.

It's good that she's trying to make sure her kids are looked after, but...She already HAS money.

I just wish that she was showing dignity rather than making money off being ill. If she were poor, and her children would literally be left with nothing, I could understand.

There are many people with, or that have had, cancer. There are many people dying from cancer. Do we see their names splashed in the papers every day? NO.

And then...there are people like the great Sir Bobby Robson. He has raised over a million pounds in 10 months...FOR CHARITY. You don't see him splashed in the papers every single day.

Rant over.

I say go do what you like Jade...it's your life and you do what you want to with whats left of it. If thats what makes her happy then go for it. Who are we to say its right or wrong??

To me, its also helping to raise awareness in young woman, the importance in going for regular smear tests to test for cervical cancer. And believe me, they are so very very important. Lets hope that this media coverage gets the age lowered from 25 as it is in England to the same as Scotland and Wales which is 20. Young women should be getting tested earlier as if caught early enough then young women like this wouldnt die as the cancer probably would be treatable. So if Jade being in the public eye leaves a legacy that helps stop other women dying young then I applaud her

All I will say is that this particular subject is very very close to my heart right now.

Very sad what is happening to her, ..but i'm not going to be 2 faced and say i actually like the woman. I found her obnoxious before the cancer.

I haven't posted on any of the many threads I've seen on the forums I go on, as I haven't really got a lot of interest in Jade Goody. Don't really know much about her, but obviously feel sorry for her. But Most of us have had family and friends die of cancer, so I have mixed feelings about what she's doing.

She is famous mainly because the public deem it so. She is always in the public eye, because of public interest. Puzzles me, but thats the way it is nowadays, and good luck to her for taking advantage of it.

Sorry to hear about your parent Dom. I know what its like and the helplessness, when you can only watch someone slowly succumb to cancer Crying or Very sad

Dom i totally understand what your saying, and quite right to, but I do feel so much for Jade and her kids in the fact that it was so quick/sudden and i feel that her misfortune hopefully will help the younger generation. i speak from experience because i had an abnormal smear, and had to undergo colposcopy treatment, which resulted in a cone biopsy (part of my cervix being removed) then smears every year for the past 8 years .. all seems clear now thank god .. but very scary

Its very tragic for someone so young to contract this fatal disease but as jim said earlier I aint gonna be two faced - she is a classic example of what is wrong with Britain and its celeb obsessed culture.I think Instead of trying to rush through weddings and christinings, she should instead be spending each minute available with her two kids.

Also the circumstances surrounding her boyfriend being able to break his curfew will no doubt open up a can of worms at a later date.

i hate the way she milks the press for all its got, i hate the way she makes it seem like no one else but her has cancer. its all about 'ME!' with people like her.

seeing a paper without jade on the cover either ecstaticly happy and appealing for more money (presumably so her kids can buy out microsoft) or in despair and appealing for more money would be a welcome change.

is it news? woman has incurable disease... hmmm, you mean like countless billions of people in undeveloped countries who die of CURABLE diseases. the money she has raised for her family could of saved whole villages worth of lives AT LEAST.

it is very unfortunate and horrific for anyone to contract any form of disease or illness, especially if it is fatal but she remains frustratingly attention, not seeking but craving, needing... i just wish people like her would have some respect.

id go on but ill probably start offending people if i haven't allready, sorry if i did, im just having a go at this whole culture. i need to get out of this country, fast.

some of the attention isnt her fault - the press would cover the story regardless of how much she milked it - its the selling of the wedding to magazines that disgusts me

Well you will all be glad to know that my tests for cervical cancer which I was waiting on the results for came back clear.

You know this same disease that has been brought more into the public eye because of the unfortunate events that have happend to Jade. I already know of lots of friends who have booked overdue smear tests because of this and hey if this saves the lives of people I know and love then Jade take what you can get. Safeguard your families future...it's already too late for her but at least she is thinking of those close to her. If I was in the public eye and in her position with 2 young children then yep I would do exactly what she has done. She hasn't got a future but at least her boys do because of what she has provided
