Does 'intuition' really exist? Have you ever had a fleeting moment of realisation about something before it happened? Or a premonition, or a dream that came true?

When the Buncefield Oil Terminal exploded (i live about 15 miles away) I had a strange dream that I was running from flames etc, and woke up all panicky, decided to go downstairs for some water. While I was in the kitchen I heard the 'boom' and the windows shook etc, and I thought it was the crane on a local building site falling over or sumthing, had a look out the window but all was well, so went back to bed and found out about it when i got up later!

yeah i think so..
one night i woke up and something was wrong, all that was in my mind was something was wrong with my family and i was 400 miles away and couldnt do anything about it, so i waited til the morning and called and my mum was really ill that night, puking her guts up.
my mum gets it about me to, she phones and says whats wrong and seems to know.

ive had it about other stuff too, like singing a song, then putting on the radio and hearing that song playing

I have a 100% success rate on predicting whether penalties will be scored in shoot-outs. Does that count?

yeah of course it counts...but it's only any use to you if you know early enough to place a bet on the outcome!

Well thats where it all breaks down of course. I only know if they are going to score or miss by their body language.

Besides, I can never predict results ahead of time anyway, especially when I have a bet on. The only time I've got it right is when WBA beat Arsenal last September. (2-1)

I think intuition is just a useful kind of prejudice. I think you have to know when to ignore it as well as use it, though.

I think premonition is a load of old rubbish. I am prejudice in my point of view, though, because I don't want to think anything is a foregone conclusion. I rank it up there with "fate" as a disgusting thing. I want the future to be freely chosen, in a game of chance where I have things to play for and things to lose. If life was a predetermined road, and people really could tell me what'd happen next and stuff like that, I'd rather die than live. It would just suck all the life, magic & soul out of my existence.

I get the same kinda things Vi does .. like humming a song then switching on the radio and its playing... thinking about someone and the phone rings... or saying or typing a word and just as you do it you either hear it on the telly or on the radio -- freaks me out sometimes

Oh........ and me and my oldest son can be thinking the same thing at the same time .. I can say something and he'll say ''thats freaky I was just thinking about that''

Yeah I get that often too...but the people who study this kind of thing say that in cases of coincidence you gotta factor in all the times that the phone rang and you didn't know who it was, and all the times you write something that doesn't appear elsewhere at the same time Confused

Premonitions always come true by definition, because it's not considered a premonition if it doesn't. If you hum a tune, then turn on the radio to hear an entirely different tune, you don't think to yourself "I just had a premonition, too bad it didn't come true."

Premonition or coincidence?

Back in 1984 my Gran's best friend and next door neighbour died. They'd be best friends and neighbours for well over 20 years and were very close. Her name was Flo. Flo was a keen gardner and spent hours of her spare time in her beloved green house in the back garden. After Flo died, new neighbours moved in and took the green house down immediately.

Some 6 years later in the summer of 1990, an outline of where the green house had been appeared in my Gran's next door garden. My Gran was convinced it was some sort of sign but we all laughed it off and jokingly called her a senial old bat.

The next day we went round to see her and she told us Flo had appeared in a dream, and showed her a map of 'heaven.' My Gran told us that Flo had told her that she was gonna pass away but to tell the family not to worry cos she'd be hapy where she was going. Again the family just laughed it of and thought she was mad cos she'd shown no signs of ill health whatsoever. She was 64 years old and still running round like she was in her 20's.

That night my Gran died of a heart attack. I still wonder to this day whether she REALLY knew she was gonna pass away or if it was just pure coincidence.
