Home >> Anything else >> Interesting info about dreaming

I have had several dreams that I have woken up from and felt my mattress bouncing...I am sure some of you have had this experience and would like to share some information I found on why the mattress bounces when you wake suddenly from a bad dream!!!
Contrary to popular belief, you have not had an out of body experience!!! It's actually your bodies self-defence mechanism in play! The "bouncing mattress" thing NORMALLY happens when you have a nightmare or disturbing dream and wake suddenly. Apparently what happens is your mind senses a threat (kinda forgets it's ONLY A DREAM) and in order to wake you up immediatley it sends deliberate signals to your body to "spasm", which is why it seems like you have just landed on your mattress when you wake.
Notice how when you suddenly awake from this kind of dream you are literally "awake"...not half awake/half asleep or feeling tired...you are 100% awake and alert?
This is the result of the "spasm", it is your minds way of making sure you are 100% alert and able to protect yourself instantly. Ever notice how you have found yourself looking around the room for something that isn't there? Again this is your defence mechanism taking over, it's not really "you" looking around the room but rather your mind searching for the threat that it sensed during the dream.
Found that rather interesting...and I no longer wake from these things wondering if my soul had gone walkies while I was asleep!!!
