I love thunderstorms - love to stand semi-naked in the rain staring up into it trying to see the lightening flashes - they are such powerfull phenomenon! there are some cracking images in the above wikipedia link like this one

I loved the link Scuba- pics were great. Lightening always amazes me and now I'm wishing we would get some storms here! My family has moved away from the city, so now for the summer I live in a more wide open, country area and some thunderstorms here would be great to watch.

I've been puzzling over that name too, would like to know too what language it is and also how its pronounced - tell you what Laura, tell us how its pronounced and let us guess the language?

On the subject of storms, anyone seen a lightening from a plane? I have

Was a long flight, by the window at night reading. Something in my extreme perifery caught my attention, lookd but nothing. Carried on reading.

Happened again - a flash? Put the book down and started looking for what had caught my eye, assuming the flashing light of another plane. After a while I saw another flash, inside a clowd, I guess maybe 3 to 5 miles away and probly a mile or two below, there was no uniform sheet of clowd but really variable stuff, and this big bulbous think in the distance being lit up occassionally fron within. I watched it till it went out of sight...

That image will be with me for a long time
