Karl Albrecht is number 6 on the forbes list of richest people on this planet, with 21,5 billion dollars. He owns Aldi South. His brother, Theo Albrecht is number 9 on the list with 18,8 billion dollars. He runs "Aldi South"....they have split the German market, one owns all Aldi supermarkets of Northern Germay the other one all in the South.

I wonder how they share the supermarkets in the UK...also North/South?

What I don't understand is, that Aldi is 50% cheaper then Tescos but at the same time 100% more expensive then Aldi in Germany....so although they make a HUGE profit in the UK, they still rip off people in the UK compared to the prices in Germany. I can not imagine this is all taxation.

In theory prices in the UK at Aldi could be even 50% less....

Yes, but Lidl spy on people

I wrote this because someone said something about Aldi.

But Aldi is still cheaper then Lidl - because Lidl has to spend more money on hidden cameras. Laughing

I dont think Aldi north/south compete in specific foreign markets, the UK's Aldi is south.

I think the split was over selling ciggarettes or summut like that. Had a German mate who used to rave about these mysterious supermarkets

It is really weird to compare the UK and German website:

http://www.lidl.co.uk/uk/home.nsf/pages/c.o.pc.index

http://www.lidl.de/cps/rde/xchg/lidl_de/hs.xsl/index_18457.htm?detail=extensive

I wanted to compare prices, but the problem is they sell different stuff.

Apple juice is about 70 pence in Germany and in the UK it is 1.91!

Depends on the juice, unless it's the exact same one. Confused

They have some for less than a quid here too.

Yeh, I lived in Germany for some time and found that the German Lidl/Aldi/Penny Markt usw were a *lot* cheaper than their UK shops. Actually, quite a lot of the products in Lidl are not that much cheaper than other supermarkets here really, but I like some of the choice in Lidl, especially the European salami & cheeses.

I love Lidl so much that I exclusively use their car park for my Friday night dogging activities.

Oh, and if the sun is shining, for Sunday picnics and to watch the sunset.
