However, a few of thousands in the bank could get a deposit (say £500), and maybe 13 weeks rent for a room (£1950), £2500 and you could have a room for a quarter of a year and Im sure that in that time anyone could arrange to get an income to support themselves.

Not all landlords! I'm on benefits. Initially I did have problems, but then decided I wasn't going to be beaten. So I put on my best 'office' type clothes, made my self look good, stood tall, and told them I was 'between' jobs after having recently split up from my husband..... none of that was a lie by the way.... I just didn't add that I'd been 'between' jobs for the last 3 years

About ten years ago when I was making about a hundred pounds a week from the Big Issue I did think about renting a bedsit as some could be got then from around 45 pounds a week in some parts of London. Then the Big Issue sales slumped. And then I was told about a squat in Southwark by an old mate. In the late 90s I did have a mate at Archway in north London that I used to sometimes stay with.

Why don't you move to Scotland or somewhere cheaper? Or just some rural area in England or Wales?
Do you know you can live like a king in Thailand for 5 dollars per day? Or in India for 100/month ?
Or you could buy a tent and live in a forest.
You could buy this house:
3500 pounds (5000 Euros) in Eastern Germany.....
Just look for houses in Eastern Germany, e.g. postcode 39387 and surrounding areas......then you do not need to squat other people's property and damage the house price/area by the bad image it will get by being squatted.
Who wants to buy a house in London that is squatted or live in an area haunted by squatters?

Yeah rooms to rent in London are expensive npowadays they range in price from about 70 pounds a week to 120 a week depending on the area. I think even in other parts of the country though private rented accomadation is still quite expensive. As someone said there are some landlords who will take people on benefits though they are fewand far between. The best thing to do is to get a part time job first then move in somewhere and claim housing benefit. I can stand the hassle you get from the DHSS when you are on unemployment benefits which is why I sell the Big Issue.
