Having had to fight the urge to throw one down the stairs of the bus today ....

Hoodies: Miss understood darlings ? Or the best part of them ran down their Mothers leg ?

Mother's leg? I nearly fell off my chair laughing, I must remember that analogy! Laughing Laughing Laughing

My son lives and dies in his hoodie, but he's not a chav.

My own personal take on what constitutes a 'chav' -- yeah, the mother's leg analogy fits rather well!

So what *is* a chav? And what's a pikey? Is there a difference?

A chav is a moronic council-estate scumbag type.

A pikey is a gypo.

A chav is a common (vulgar?) person of working class background. The male of the species typically wears a hoodie, travels in small gangs and gets his girlfriend pregnant at 14 max. The female is basically glued to a pram and wears large hoop earrings.

A pikey is a member of the travelling community

Chavs, characterised by their addidas bomber jackets trackies with their socks tucked into them, usually wears caps, with as little hair as possible without being actually bald.

there heads tend to resemble giant misshaped eggs, and they hurl insults at anyone that looks different to them.

As for why, im not terribly sure.

Ah, thanks Moose. Yep got lots of chavs moved up my way recently. The 12 years old girls sit on the steps outside tesco all evening with cans of lager shouting abuse at passers-by. Their poor kids sit in their pushchairs watching, bemused!

Erm, I'm working class and I'm not a chav.

It doesn't mean someone of working class background as such, but more the unpleasant underclass that seems to have emerged in recent years. Nothing wrong with being working class.

At the zoo yesterday there was a gang of about 6 lads and ladettes wearing white shiney tracksuits, cap back-to-front, yep the girls had big hoop earrings, shouting "C***" at the animals....my son called them chavs to me, and started telling chav jokes really loud, they seemed to recognise themselves cuz one of them asked "You taking the piss, mate?" and started forward looking mean...trouble is, my son was sat down at the time, when he stood up well he's 6'6 and this guy all 5 feet of him backed off!
So yes I guess they were chavs. I've worked with travellers in the past and they are usually rather nice people.

Quite right. Some lovely travellers near me are looking after my lawn mower for me at the moment. Rolling Eyes

Sorry I doubled up on moose's definition, my internet connection is as slow as a chav in a maths test. And I was being distracted by top gear

As for the working class thing, what I meant was that all chavs are working class not all working class are chavs

do you have hoop earrings and a hoodie boyfriend?

If you've moved away from the estate that makes you a traveller - in which case you are a pikey

There are good and bad people in all sections of society.
But I defended travellers on here in another thread many moons ago and got shot down in flames, so I shant bother going down that route again.
Back to the topic, nope 'chavs' (the taken definition) are not worth the paper they are written on, in my opinion. I've yet to see/meet a decent one, but like I said there is good and bad in all sections of society BUT they are named 'chav' for a specific reason so I doubt there is a good one. Bit like saying not all pedophiles are creepy evil bastards...
