The sad fact is that on some forums you wouldn't be allowed to do even that, as it is a religious event and might offend someone who is of a different faith Surprised

Will keep my wishes to myself then.............nuff said Rolling Eyes

Well, everyone else does the "happy whatever" here, no reason why you can't wish people a Happy Easter, is there?. I just meant that on other forums I use that religious festivals aren't featured on them, so as not to offend anyone. I have my own personal views on the extremes of PC, but shall keep them to myself now I am a moderator here

Well, I'll say it for you DH. That is not being Pc, that is pure unadulterated BIGOTRY.....not allowing anyone to think differently from 'you' ('you' being the offended party).
I am Christian, a Catholic.......so what would anyone on here say if I got all high and mighty and *offended* by all the atheistic posts that abound, and demanded that they be deleted forthwith because I was offended? I would quite rightly expect to be told to climb out of my own bottom and take a hike.
So, in some states in america this Easter some shopping malls are selling chocolate eggs, fluffy bunnies...but woe betide the shop keeper who mentions the word "Easter".....the non-christians might be offended......of course just as many non-christians will buy said chocolate eggs, fluffy bunnies...but the Christians have to pretend that it is not a Christian event for fear of upsetting others.....it's Irish if you ask me, excuse the pun! (I expect i've upset some irish people now, or rather someone non-irish who perceives what i've said as possibly offensive to the irish so they will get offended on their behalf.......)
I tried to point this out in the joke section (because it was a rather funny article) but it was locked because we are not even allowed to discuss the idea of being UnPC, let alone *be* UnPc.
I shall get off my soapbox now before I get into trouble again......

Happy saint Welshman that saved an entire country from purgatory by telling it that christianity was the way to go with the belief that snakes were bad, that our saviour was the son of a father who was an omnipotent being and whose mother was a virgin......... day
Smile

Kidding aside, just to contribute to the Saint Patrick, Saint George debate.

Saint Patrick isn't a national thing. What makes Saint Patricks day unique among cultural holidays around the world is the fact that its inclusive, not exclusive. Everyone is Irish on this day, It doesn't matter where you are from, your one of us. The Parade in Dublin exhibites people and floats from all around the world. We Share our National holiday with everyone, rather than make it relevant to just us. Regardless of whether this is the result of alcohol companies marketing or genuine openmindedness from the indigenous culture, Saint Patricks day belongs to everyone. Hence its popularity. Seriously, Our national holiday celebrates and exhonorates a former foreign slave, A welshman of all people! How many other nations in the world do something similar?

Its a National holiday where everyone is invited Very Happy

Well! pardon me for mentioning it

It just annoys me for some reason how everyone seems to go [*word removed - darkhorse*] over St. Patrick's day and yet don't care about our own day. Do you think over in Ireland, on St.George's Day, they're all sitting around going "Hooray!! Hooray!! Let's all celebrate." Of course not, they don't give a shit. Why should we?

Chances are Moose that if you went back on your ancestry you'd find both Irish and Scots in there somewhere.

I know for a fact that I have Irish, Scots and English in me so.....

HAPPY ST.PADDY'S DAY one and all

Aren't most of our so'called 'christian' celebrations derived from Pagaen ones?

Quite a few, like Yuletide, which was the Old English midwinter/newyear celebration. Carried on being that for centuries after conversion, and ironicaly the Scots still seem to focus on New Years Eve and Day.

Lammas is Hlaf Mass, and may also be pre-christian.

Even some saints days are like that.

In fact the only major celebration I think is'nt still celebrated is Litha but even thats the solstice (midsummer)...or is it Disting? I'll have to check now, memory being poor and my records being sketchy.

Have you been reading the Daily Mail again Alice? If just one person on these forums has ever had their Easter or Christmas ruined by so-called `political correctness` then I look forward to hearing about it.

I`m 38 years old and have never met anybody who has admitted to being, or even endorsed the policy of, political correctness. And bear in mind that I`ve worked alongside dungareed social workers...

On the other hand, I`ve lost count of the number of times I`ve heard somebody (Almost always a white male and always in a self-congratulatory tone of voice) say something like "I`m not politically correct and I`m f**king proud of it!".

The `PC brigade` is nothing more than a straw army, a mental comfort blanket for bigots and loudmouths.

Nope, I dont read the papers.......but I do have school kids, so you have 'met' at least one person here who had to put up with the PC Brigade - not allowed a Nativity play, not allowed a crucifix at Easter.....I wont bore you with the details........ Evil or Very Mad

I wouldnt use your term "ruined" -- but "made to feel in the wrong"...... Sad
