Happy Paddys day people, I've still to go out and get my pint of guinness with a clover ontop but I shall at some point. Very Happy

I don't give a kipper's dick about St. Patrick's day.. I'm English.

It's stupid how people in this country seem to care more about an Irish holiday than they do about our own day, St.George's Day. What a load of rubbish.

What's the point in all these 'saints' days anyway?
You don't get a day off work for any of 'em!!

So the story goes, but that is irrelevant. St. George's Day is our national day, a celebration of being English. It's the meaning behind it that is important, not whether St. George was Turkish or not.

I am unsure what that smiley means, is it to do with violence, or the five knuckle shuffle?

It just annoys me for some reason how everyone seems to go [*word removed - darkhorse*] over St. Patrick's day and yet don't care about our own day. Do you think over in Ireland, on St.George's Day, they're all sitting around going "Hooray!! Hooray!! Let's all celebrate." Of course not, they don't give a shit. Why should we?

I spoke to him only yesterday and he is quite insistent that he is originally from Anatolia, when it a part of the Roman Empire. He did stress that his parentage was rather a mixed bag, his father being from Cappadocia and his mother from Lod (now Israel).

He did also say, however, that he has been living in Plymouth for so long now (he owns a second hand furniture shop off Union Street) that he feels entirely British. In fact he went so far as to say that he is very much pro-EU and actually feels himself to be European. He takes 2 sugars in his tea (for which he expressed a preference for Lady Grey), reads the Sunday Times and supports the Morley Rangers under 9 football team.

I am half-Irish (southern) and my mother's side are welsh, scandinavian, russian, 16th century pakistani........so not a drop of English blood in me.....I do like a nice guinness but sadly not today as I have the flu.
I dont even know when the English Saint's Day is...oh yes George thats the one...... Razz

PS Who needs one day of the year for an excuse to quaff a guinness?

Yes I did know he was from Anatolia (now part of Turkey), I just didn't want to come across as a smart arse!

My family is Irish and I was born in Scotland but regardless of any of that divisive nationalism, Happy St Patrick's Day to you too, LittleVixen!

Oh...and next time you make George tea, could you leave out the sugar..he's given it up for Lent.
