There was one that Mega locked recently, but I would have to trawl to look for it and I'm not inclined to do so at the moment.

I would like more serious conversations, but I do find when I get in from work and I'm tired I'm so eager to put my tupence in but my brain would rather just think of fart jokes.

Your post count would plummet. Laughing

When I joined I was surprised to find that there wasn't a thread headed something like 'Can anyone tell me one reason to believe in God?' I've seen them all over facebook in the past.

How can we not believe in the site's owner. (cue don't be facetious)

Not sure what forum such a thread would be in, pondered World Issues and found I can only view the first page of threads in there.

No accusations for you. I forgot about that God.

That's probably why there isn't one.

Change God for Tony Blair and we're cooking with gas.

In the past here, anyone who mentioned having any 'religion' got the piss taken out of them - a long while ago even a mod on here (who's not a mod anymore, nor a member i dont think) really made some snide hurtful comments to me any time I mentioned my religious beliefs - he was an atheist - anyways, also in the past a few people have tried to bring 'religion' as topics, but sadly they descend into a free-for-all and people take things personally.
Scientology was just ripped to shreds by people having a laugh and taking the piss, it was never discussed sensibly.
I dont bother mentioning religion anymore its just an invitation for some to be spiteful under the guise of being funny.
I would be all for a thread from the atheists point of view, but as I said if its going to be "lets take the piss out of people who have any kind of religious faith" then count me out.

I was going to add at the end of my comment that it would probably have ended in disaster.

I'm interested in all different beliefs and would have liked to learn a bit more about Scientology or any other form of belief.

What is interesting is I have been on an American forum before where God was mentioned a lot in the form of 'I'll pray for you' etc. Now, I have never seen it, but I did wonder what would happen if I had just piped up and said thank you for your prayers, but I don't believe in God. I'm interested what the reaction would be. Possibly the same as you have just described, but for the other side of the cause?

Sadly it's common for the majority to hound out the minority.

I'm guessing that the mod was the starter of the scientology thread Samatron. If so he is technically still a member and described himself as an antitheist rather than an atheist. Which might explain the antagonistic stance.

The thread is still there, most interesting point on the thread for me is that Greystone seemed to be the one who'd read into it most.

Oh and you still mention religion quite a bit RG although possibly not to the extent you did, I don't know.

Welcome!

It can be, as with every other thread in this section it trails off into rambling. Surprised

This thread has been very good at staying on the subject. Regardless of my numerous attempts to side track it.

In the past there have been problems with people taking things personally, and complaining to the mods, getting threads locked. This is why there is such a low tolerance level now.

It was generally people who took it all to seriously and/or felt it was a personal affront for people to disagree with them.

I'm all for a bit of intelligent debate. Primarily, this is a dating site, and so the majority of the content should remain light-hearted and flirty, but there is room for everything. As long as people respect each other and their differences in opinion.

No I wasnt even aware that Samatron was or is a moderator. I deliberately did not mention a name for good reason...so stop fishing! Laughing
I was also unaware that I still mention religion? Gosh, maybe thats just because I am who I am, and the 'Godly' part of me cant help but show its face however hard I try to hide it? Heehee, the thought!
Yeah, once upon a time I used to say stuff like "As a Christian, my opinion on this is...." Thats when I'd get shot down in flames, or I'd not even mention my religious stance at all, but if I said anything that sounded moralistic (I dont want one-night-stands) I'd still get ripped to shreds for 'being brainwashed by Jesus' or some such tripe. Those that put forward a moralistic viewpoint but are careful never to mention religion get a pat on the back.
Choochi0 - I have found, time and time again, all forums, whether they be dating sites or otherwise, if they are US based you will get lots of prayers said for you, if they are UK based if you are the one to mention prayer you will be shot down in flames and be the laughing stock.
Just the way it is. Wink

Maybe he wasn't a mod then, just he was the most anti in the thread. And stop fishing, never. Smile

From what I have gathered, the majority of members who post on the forums view the forums as somewhat divorced from the dating side. Many in fact are either in a relationship or simply not looking.
Surely, ALL threads should simply be whatever the forum users wish to discuss? Why should the majority of threads be light-hearted and fluffy? Fact is, they are, but why 'should' they be? Because its Fluffbox, ooops sorry I mean Flirtbox?
Laughing

I agree with that. There will be some faking to seem as though they're better than they are, especially when on their profiles it shows what threads they've posted on recently. It takes a while before you see what someone is really like, when they've let themselves go a bit, comfortable with you. But as with most forums there's going to be masks on people, some people will be genuinely pleasant and some will be arseholes. It's how the internet goes.

Hiya Teggs. Nice to see you're still around fella. Hows tricks?

I figured I'd poke my nose around the forums again seeing as I'm now 'back on the books'. Well, not that you'd ever see anything resembling dating on the forum, but its still good for shits 'n' giggles.

Anyway, regarding the fakers; there have been some huge fakers here in the past. Once they're outside of the forum and you get to know them a little better the facade drops. The difference in forum persona and actual person can be quite startling. But, yes, that is the nature of the internet. It always has been and always will.

You'd still hope that, given the nature of the site, people would be a little more honest. False advertising and all that. Still, when the panties drop the bullshit stops.
