I have been in it but there was no one else there. By the way there are a couple of almost empty rooms on Lycos Chat. We could take over one of them. Their chatrooms are at http://chat.lycos.co.uk We could use the After Hours room on the adult deck there as that room is usually very quiet with not many in there.

I was wondering what others thought about this idea and what features people would like to see in it. The pic above is a very rough layout (and will look better than that in windows) but basically the tabs would be the channels you are chatting in with the black (colour just done black at the moment to test something but this will be configurable by the user, background colour and text colours etc) box showing the chat, the list on the right showing the users in that channel, the text box below for typing and sending messages to the channel.

If anyone has any ideas on this post them on here if or the idea is popular i will start up a thread for people to post ideas...

What about using an open source instant messenger and just skinning it?
I think doing an instant mesenger is a bit like re-inventing the wheel....and you will notice how much work it is when it comes to all the details and problems later on. It has to be stable, secure and it needs to be replicable across several servers....as the load increases dramatically for media streams.
