Scottie, I'm not brill at surfing the internet, but from what I've come across so far, it might be worth contacting the Citizens Advice Bureau. They may have a leaflet of some sorts. If they don't, then someone there should be able to give you some advice.

maybe they are refering to policies in the workplace to do with the fair treatment of others, dignity at work, equality in the workplace, anti discrtimination, anti bullying etc etc..that sort of thing?in practice it would be knowing of the policies and how to adhere to them and what to do if these policies are breached and who to report it to

??

I hate job application forms nowadays, ask stupid questions, When I left school [1973] most companies didn't bother with forms.

If you couldn't research the are I would probably write something about misconduct, sexual harrasment etc and how people have to be aware of these issues and maybe something about pay fairness as there was a bit of a hoo ha about that in the news not too long ago (women getting paid less than men etc), but google is probably your friend on this one Smile

ok thanx for the replies, i am familiar with basic equal opotunities guidlines at work, like most people i have been given a sheet to read about it when starting a new job (company policy and all that).

its just the demonstrating an awareness of the issues in the workplace bit that got me, as how do you demonstrate an awareness of principles of equalities issues and its application in a work setting?
its an odd question, but i think i will do what matt said and just write a bit about the issues that could possibly arise as ive never had any experience of equality issues in the workplace. Confused

Poss. give some blurb about potential issues of INequality that may arise, and there are lots more than just a fat lechery old boss trying to grope his assistant; you could mention ageism (both possible prejudice against very old or very young workers); 'clique-ism' (though I'm not sure I'd use this word....it's probably not a word...) and bullying; accessibility problems eg for disabled employees (wheelchair, blind etc). Maybe also the equalities issues re pay and holiday entitlement arising from childless employees vs those with children; how you might balance the two. 'Possible application in a work setting' prob means they want you to envisage a little scenario and outline it. Is it relevant to the job you're going for? If so you might have to discuss it at interview. You could mention the necessity for employees to be well informed as to workplace guidelines and complaints procedure; knowing the chain of command; to have access to informed and sympathetic manager/s; to have a good Human Resources team in place....

Confusing enough for you?!

some companies make you demonstarte awareness by making you do yearly mandatory training/assessments, I had to do these sorts of things in the NHS, such as : clinical governance, freedom of information, data confidentiality, dignity at work..etc

Just write: "I understand and I am aware".

just write...'have seen the leaflets lying around the office about' and staple a few on the application form...
