i was lying in bed this morning having the best sleep since i don't know when........ when all of a sudden a fire alarm went off..... i woke up in a haze wondering where the fire was and how come the fire alarm stopped ringing...maybe it melted? i grabbed my phone in a blur and read the time..... 08.45am.... i was late... it wasn't a fire alarm but my doorbell (which sounds like a fire alarm!) ringing... i stumbled from bed knowing who it was before i answered the door. it was emma...the girl who gives me a lift to "rentokill" every morning. "i'll get a taxi in", i promised her.

i spent about fifteen minutes ringing taxi's and wasting my credit before i thought to ring my mother and ask her to get my brother out of bed to give me a lift. i'd give him a tenner. she said she wasn't well....so she couldn't mind the kids today. she was going to the doctor. so i had to text emma and say.... "i have no credit left. wasted most of it ringing taxis..all i have are free texts. i rang my mother to see if dilly would give me a lift but she told me she's not well so she can't mind the kids. so i won't be in."

she answered with........................"do you want me to ring you a taxi?"
so i explained to her again that my mother wasn't well and my granny wouldn't be able to cope with the kids on her own.

so......... if my mother was well and i was able to get a taxi.... it would have cost me about thirty quid to take my son down the road and drop him off...then bring my daughter to school and then go on to work. we are all on meters here now and all journeys cost an arm and a leg. to be honest i'm glad i ran into a brick wall and couldn't go in today. my last thought before i go to sleep everynight is.................oh god.... i'm in there again tomorrow.

i truly hate it there. honestly. i know i only have a week left. but i'm not going back. i'm still stuck doing the filing that nobody bothered with for two or three years. sorting out their mess. wouldn't mind if i was getting paid for it. but i'm not. so screw them. and i have spent more money in the two weeks i've been there than in the whole time i've been in college. taxi's here and taxi's there....taxi's home in the evenings cos it's too dark to walk home with the kids by the time i get home..... only seeing the kids for an hour a day...... it's not worth any amount of grades.

it really is terrible. i don't answer phones. i don't do computer work. i just file and file and file and file and file and file and file. there aren't even structured breaks. we get one lunch break of an hour all day. we can take that whenever we want. but it's only one. from nine am to five thirty pm one break!?

What happens if you jack it in, just lose credits ?
Seems a waste of time if you aren't doing work that's relevant to your course.
Cant you have a word with someone at the college ?

I did a job once that I really hated..its not good for you.

i will be frowned upon when i go back to college but i don't give a rat's ass. lol. i'd rather lose out on some grades and get my house back in order and my kids back inline. i aint had the energy to clean properly since i started there. ugh.

so there you go. decision made.

As disgraceful as it sounds, it's actually normal for you to get a single one hour break in a regular 9-5 job (fine, yours is till 5:30).

I once worked in a place where I did 9 hour shifts and only got half hour break.

I totally agree the work sounds like crap, but you won't get sympathy about the breaks from most people!
