27.08.2010, 19:30 quote
I thought it would be an interesting thread for some discussion around the significance of colour in everyday lives. Anything from our personal preferances of rainbow colours, earth colours or just colours that hold some meaning for us.
We have a thread for what colour underwear people are wearing, but we wear colours to show our support for sporting teams, coloured uniforms for identification, and seasonal colours as dictated by the fashion industry.
I hang the clothes in my wardrobe according to the colours of the rainbow, yet nowhere else in my home has this level of organisation.

which has a lot of ideas to get you thinking.
I used to hate the colour green and often wondered if it was related to a horrible dress I was made to wear as a child..... I do like greens now except for the particular shade of that dress!!

I know some Spurs fans that wont ever wear anything 'red' [Arsenal's colours], But I follow Dag & Red who wear red...so has been mentioned to me
My favourite colour is green..not sure why. Is it a boys colour?

I like infa-red light. Although you can't see it, it does turn people pink...

The colour I dislike most is a greenish-mustard and I'm not that keen on brown either, although I can still appreciate HOW the colours are used and will still use them in my artwork, but to a lesser degree than the rainbow colours and metallics.
I love black as a colour to wear, but I like it combined with bright colours too. I'm attracted to different colours according to how I'm feeling but once I spent a weekend in a friend's home that only had earth colours like the different shades of brown, ochres and green and it really affected how I felt in a negative way.

I like bright colours and/or colours that stand out... Although I probably wouldn't go for the craziest shade of some colours, I'd go for the one right next to it...
I dislike brown and colours which seem dead to me (if you will), as well as people who think of themselves as normal and never stand out. I dislike that, mostly because everyone is normal... If you don't stand out, then why should anyone be interested.
I have a pretty colorful personality and I love to show it through clothes and messages... I like things which are unique (or almost unique, if I may say) and I like my colours the same way...
My preference for bold colours, especially for clothes, resides basically in me liking to stand out... Not that I couldn't stand out otherwise, but I like black and red, par example, for several reasons like:
They underline some body features, as they're real strong. Black in my opinion expresses power (see what Neo and his fellows wear in movies, corporate, etc) as well as slims down... And red is for passion and catching the eye... Once upon a time I learnt more about this in a class I took at UNI, but I don't really remember much of it, however I do remember getting an A when I maximized the attention I got whilst presenting a paper by wearing a large red hat.
For indoor clothing I prefer dark shades of blue and white because I like to think of my place as my safe, soothing spot. Also tried to paint the walls into a cafe-au-lait sort of shade, because I love the way light reflects (or whatever it does) on that colour... That's the only place I like any shades of brown (although the colour on my walls didn't come out much as planned). I also like light wood colour very much, but only when it comes to house stuff.
I'm not a big fan of green, par example, but I love some shades that underline my eyes and, of course, the green baize that I find on the table.
Other than that... When I go to a public institution or something, I like darker shades, as I somehow associate them with stability. But I've recently seen a very bright advertising agency office with stunning orange couch and chair that I'd totally love to have. When I saw it I clearly read: We're bold, strong and we're right here, look at us !
And when it comes to other people, as previously mentioned, I for one am attracted to people who wear black as I like the power they seem to show... However I seem able to make some distinction between people who wear it to grief and to appear scarry etc and people who wear it to underline their powerful qualities. Also black means bad boy for me. And that can be quite exciting.
But, of course, colours aren't everything... However they may underline or add to some things... And we may sometimes find the greatest things wearing the most dull of colours.
Just a quick, long rant. Apologies.
