Meat eater. Although I do have some meals without meat, I eat it nearly every day.

I don't want to know how it gets to my plate, though.

Fairly strict veggie (not vegan) for over 10 years now. I can't honestly say it's a moral issue. If it came down to it and it was you and me on a desert island and there was no food then you'd better sleep with one eye open.

I did some work at a few rendering plants when I was younger and it put me off meat for life. I'm not gonna preach here (or anywhere else come to think of it; theres nothing worse than a preaching veggie) but after seeing what gets put into animal feed, and what we ultimately end up eating, that was enough.

I've had meat a few times since, but thats only when I've killed it myself or I know how it's been raised, ie organically. On the whole I steer well clear of it though.

Chikhai, i just want to say i totally agree and if i dont know where meat has come from and whats in it i wont eat it - even if that means asking loads of qe option when our for a meal or ordering the veggie option. i only buy off other farmers or a farmer with their own farm shop and i make sure i know what they feed their animals on, and when we were cattle farmers (now arable) we used to rear our own. Its definitly a very important issue and i dont think i would eat meat as much if i didnt know where it was from.

I'm not a veggie...but I don't eat meat.

I will eat it if there's nothing else, though.

I can't classify myself as carnivore or herbivore- I'm more of a carbivore- I love my breads and pastas!

I eat meat most days but enjoy a plate of pasta with a basic tomato sauce and like to experiment with vegetarian dishes occasionaly. I also like fish but find it a bit pricey to have regularly.

I've been a veggie since the early 90's.

I watched a particularly graphic programme about the meat processing industry, and simply felt that I didn't want to support or sponsor such practices in the future.

Don't get me wrong, I've no objection to anyone going out with a rod or gun and bagging their own supper, but it's the wholesale forced-growing and casual abuse of live animals that makes me a little queasy. Maybe too much compassion is a bad thing?

Yes, I eat dairy products, wear leather shoes and feed my cats on non-specific offal. That's my line that I've drawn, and I'm happy where I am.

Oh, and at 6ft and 200lbs, I'm probably not your archetypal skinny & pale veggie, so it comes as a bit of a surprise to some people.

Just one observation though; whenever it does come out in company, there'll always be at least one knuckle-dragger who feels compelled to point his finger into his own open gob, and mumble "See them, mate? Canine teeth they are, mate..................." Presumably, this neo-troglodite would also espouse living in a cave and dying of disease before they reach 35?

Total veggie for more than 25 years. I just dont like the idea of eating meat but I dont preach and I dont object to others eating meat. Each to their own.

Much easier to be a veggie these days because so much more choice available. Gone are the days of only eating salad

I sympathise, just point at your molars and tell them 'omnivore - meat is a luxury hence the predominance of veggie crushing teeth' Wink

No red meat for me. Someone told me a phrase for it, like "demi-vegetarian" or something but I forgot it now. I didn't make a concious decision just always preferred chicken and fish.
