k, you need to work out what it is you have, if you have layer of fat over your abs then no amount of sit-ups are gonna shift it, FACT. To shift this you need something cardio intensive, i.e running, cycling, rowing, etc etc that will trim your excess fat. The working out bit should then help to tone your skin and strengthen your muscles.

im working on my upper and lower body atm, heres my workout

3 sets of 50 reps bicep curls - 10kg
3 sets of 50 extended short butterfly presses (arms out in front) - 10kg
3 sets of 50 lowered short butterfly presses (arms out to either side) - 10kg
3 sets of 50 bench presses - 10kg

All the reps are very quick, ive learnt that quick reps burn off fat and help with definition while slow reps build mass.

After this I do the following

50 crunches on the front
50 crunches on right side
50 crunches on left side
3 sets of 50 suspended leg raises.

After that i really feel it all over my upper body.

Building a decent six pack is no easy task LOL, lots of pain

And on top of my nightly routine, i do karate 4 nights a week.

As Eric Cartman would say "I'm not fat I'm big boned"

Aradon, think I might give your example a try. I had actually heard in the past from a fella at a gym I used to attend (I have all the equipment I need in my bedroom now...saves money) that doing high numbers of reps with lighter weights is more beneficial than doing 3 reps of 12/15 on heavier weights (ex. 35kg). Time will tell I guess

Well i used to do a similar work out as i listed, but with 3 sets of 8 reps at 25kg I didn't notice a difference tbh, beacause full reps with higher weights BUILDS the bulk of muscle, and for that you need a proper diet. Doing lots of fast reps with lighter weights gives what youve got a better workout by far, i've been on the above programme for about a month or so now and im already seeing definition in me pecs and abs, and my arms are getting chipped!! result as far as im concerned.

Lol sorry if that came across a bit forceful but I cant stand platitudes..... Smile

Maybe you can't, but if Hungry has enough people telling him the majority of women really don't mind, he may ease off himself a bit! It sounds from his posts that he's not so much worried for any one particular reason, but that he's paranoid he doesn't look good enough. Some reasurrance that he looks damned good might go some way to him not overdoing it.

Which by the way oh Hungryone, in my opinion you look damned good from here

Hmm, knowing that the majority of women aren't fussed is neither here not there for me. I'm doing this to my body for me, no one else, my ex used to tell me i looked fine all the time, and i became a slob, ate loads of takeaways and gained a belly, your content when your happy right? well anyways, when i look in the mirror im not happy with what i see, if other think i look fine then great! when i look in the mirror and think, yeah, im lookin good, thats when i'll be happy.

sides like ive said earlier, a good looking body is a by-product of being healthy and fit, and fitness is what im aiming for above all else.

How can you possibly tell what his body is like from the pic he has posted?
Dont forget the issue here is his body not his looks.

Just to clear things up a little, I'm honestly NOT looking for people to say "Oh you look good as is" or "You look ok to me"...my friends and my ex tell me all the time I look fine (or "cute" as my ex says). I am trying to build a better body for two reasons:
1) I am paranoid about my stomach...my G.P., my ex and all my friends keeping telling me I look the way someone my size and age is meant to look (I'm 5'11 with the frame of a Gaelic Footballer...not huge but pretty big...I weigh 13 and a half stone which is pretty much the correct weight and my waist is 34 which is average) I just feel that I would have higher self-esteem if I could look in the mirror and see something else except my belly!
2) I do try to keep fit, my arms and chest are both fine it's just that I am curious why my stomach won't respond to the excercises I am doing. Aradon's example is the kind of advice I need and am looking for...but feel free to say I look good anyway, never tire of hearing it haha Very Happy

Well hungryone, Ill put my thoughts here as well, I think weights machines are good to build muscle to define your body better, but there is only a couple of ways to loose a bit of weight round the belly - either eat a bit less (1 bag of crisps a day is enough) or cardiovascular exercise - running and stuff. Dont do a mad diet thing cause your body rebels and puts it all back on again.

Anyway, I tend to eat a dinner at lunch time and one in the evening, but run loads and keep fairly trim.

Oh, I also saw on the telly once that looking down your body tends to distort the way you look at yourself - bigger belly, smaller willy effect, I think it does that out of pure evil cruelty. Better to get someone else to tell you what they think, and listen to them.

You do have a point, maybe I should listen to other people more. As far as the diet thing is concerned, tried the diet thing and the chips and chocolate always wins in the end!!!
