My massive collection all three pairs include a pair of DM's a pair of steel toecapped work boots and a pair of grubby walking boots. The DM's and work boots outnumber the walking boots (both being black)which is why i said Nay

If you would like a serious point of view from a man’s perspective, one who is not prone to defer to fashion and silly comments on the TV, I own a large number of brown shoes that I wear with great regularity. However, the brown shoes I own are all casual shoes. If I had to wear ‘proper’ shoes, I would probably opt for black. So, in a nutshell: brown for casual, black for smart. Obviously (as someone else mentioned) it will depend largely on what you will be wearing. Brown shoes are (obviously) perfectly acceptable when worn with earthy or natural toned clothing; any other coloured clothing (especially a neutral colour, like grey or balck), I would perhaps opt for black shoes for a smart evening out. Most men can get away with wearing either colour with almost anything that they wear (assuming that one is not wearing chavvy sports clothing, of course!); how they carry it off depends largely on their choice of socks to go with the shoes, not the shoes themselves. Regardless of which colour shoes you opt to wear on the night, I am sure that you are wise enough to leave any white socks you might own safely in a drawer at home

You can wear brown shoes with earthy colours but i wouldn't wear them with black trousers, a definite no-no. Black strides and black shoes. You can wear black shoes with any colour trousers, just be careful on the brown ones.
