Hi I'm Hannah, never posted before because I'm pretty new =]

Has anyone else ever broken a bone and not found out for weeks?!

I think I broke my wrist on my 18th birthday about 6 weeks ago! [Was a bit drunk, one of my friends stole my phone for some reason, I was stood on a bench as you do and evidently thought I could lean backwards to grab it but no]

I'd been carrying on as normal, I just thought it was sprained, [I was at work once and I actually cried cuz they made me rip open a lot of boxes...it hurt a lot then lol] My friend Sam was trying to teach me how to punch like a guy [we get bored on our frees in sixthform lol], and I accidently punched the wall full pelt [with an already broken wrist which I don't think did it any good! lol!]

No one thought it was broken, including myself, a first aider, and a doctor, who decided to send me for an X ray just in case lol.

I now have it in a bright pink plaster cast, its only been on for a few days and it's already bugging me!

Just wondered if anyone else out there has ever broken a bone without knowing?

Or any stories of how you broke a bone. Because I'm feeling like a plank right now lol.

Hi Han and welcome

I broke my wrist when I was 15. I was on my bike and was too busy watching the motorbike that was going past me. I hit a stone, bounced off the curb, cut my girly bits and snapped my wrist. I was in plaster for 6 months and only avoided having it medically rebroken due to a bad mend, by my parents moving away

Also broke one of my little toes 12 years ago over New Year. I was so drunk, and it was so cold, that I wasn't aware I had broken it for a few days. By then, it was too late to do anything about it Laughing

Wilkommen!

I chipped my elbow when I was about 10. I was pushed off a padded tunnel-cum-bridge thing meant for under 5s. Had my arm in a sling for a few weeks. No snazzy cast for me Rolling Eyes

I broke my left arm in 2 places when I was 9.
I broke 2 toes on my left foot when I was 14.
I broke the same toes in a completely different accident about 7 years ago.
Obviously the accidents were different because of the years apart. *ramble, ramble*

Hi Hannah
Excuse the pun, but....Snap! Laughing

A couple of weeks ago I stood up too quickly and launched forward onto the floor (no I dont drink alcohol!) and landed awkwardly on my wrist bent backwards.
It hurt like hell, but it was bedtime so I just went to bed.
Next day it was hurting not so bad and pretty bruised, so I thought oh good it will get better with time.....but no as time went on it hurt more and got stiffer.
So, I eventually 5 days later went to the GP feeling a bit of a fraud cuz it looked fine by then but still hurting and stiff...she said Oh dear I think its broken!
Had xrays to confirm this, but as I have muscular dystrophy it was decided to put it in a wrist splint as a plaster cast would cause the arm muscle to irreversibly atrophy.
Oh and I've also chipped the pointy bit on my elbow.
So, you have my heartfelt commiserations!
(and yeah, my sister broke her pelvis in 3 places falling off a horse years ago, and didnt bother to go to the doc for nearly 2 months because she felt a wussie moaning!).

Your biggest worry from not getting it strapped up/cast immediately is that you very often get arthritis in the offending joint as a result.

knock back your cod liver oil, evening primrose and glucosamine every morning. You'll look like an old bird but your joints will be as loose as oakman's last girlfriend Wink

I always take cod liver oil, starflower oil (stronger than primrose oil) and glucosamine, but it hasnt helped me none! Confused

Mind you, I'd prolly be even more of an old crock if I didnt take them! Laughing

I had a broken nail without knowing once. I was naturally devastated when I found out. Luckily my manicurist is a saint Razz
