Its an eye opener that Ireland seems to be having the same problem as Britain, where it doest happen in main land Europe apparently.

The British culture as a whole drinks alot in general and i am not saying that this is in any way the reason for all the violence. But when you have alot of intoxicated people in one place some of them don't handle their drink too well and get aggressive. I am lucky and have lived with and in other cultures and have seen the difference between England on the weekend and just about any state in the USA or Germany. Neither or those places have to man extra officers just to deal with getting through a routine weekend in town. Alcohol in the USA is sold at the age of 21 for good reason and i know that even there people can get their hands on it. But at least they do not have 16-18 year old children walking into pubs and getting served unlike here. Maybe it is time to review this law here.

This problem has only been around for about 15 - 20 years, and seems to be getting worse. We used to drink a lot in the 70's but didn't want to fight with everyone and the Police. There was the odd fight, but nothing as bad as nowadays.
But there was more respect for the Police in those days.

i think it all starts at home, if your parents dont show you respect your hardly likely to respect others. thats my theory anyway.

Newcastle is really bad..especially on Friday and Saturday nights around the Bigg Market..fights galour.
During the week,I have to drive through the town (Toon ) late at night and the amount of drunken bodies that are staggering around boogles the mind..
I agree what Scottie69 is on about the lack of respect..
These people seem to lack the respect for themselves as well as loss of respect for others...
