Well, like I said earlier in thread it would depend upon certain, specific sets of circumstances. My political beliefs don't completely define me as a person, and neither are they black and white... I seem to have taken a bit from here, a bit from there, and mixed it all together to make my own personal politics. |
A bit like my religious beliefs. I lean towards the Old School, and sometimes refer to myself as a Pagan Catholic, or a Catholic Hedgewitch.
20.04.2008, 22:46 quote
Paganism is something I find quite interesting, actually, especially the old Norse religions like Odinism. If I was pressed to describe myself as some sort of religion I would probably say pagan.

This subject somehow managed to get my brain working ( yay a miracle ) and it's made me think about a few things..
i'm a firm believer that men shouldn't hit women - i would defend a woman, and die if it came to it because of it,
i also believe in fate - if it's my turn to die i will die however i look at it..
those who say they wouldn't die for their beliefs, what would you die for? or would that need a new topic ?

I dont normally interrupt the flow of a thread once i make it. But i do like coming back to see what's up.
I just wanted to see what sets of circumstances in which people deal with belief and am really happy to read certain answers.
all over the world today, Belief is the double edged sword - as harmful as it is beneficial.
i suppose this thread was an exercise to understand that. where's that magical line between it being beneficial and it becoming the bugbear we all abhor.

That's deep Shiraz, considering its 1am
But I understand what you mean
and can I say thanks for the only thread i've kept coming back to today!
Also, your words are like poetry!! You have a very elegant style! x

Not sure if this is on topic as such, but I won't lie for my kids even.
When one of my son's was about 8 yrs old, he and 3 pals decided to break into a house. Well, my son was the look-out and the others climbed in the window.
We refused to lie for him, though the other 3 kids' parents all lied and said their boys were at home with them, so the police ended up believing our son was 'working' alone. We let him get told off by the police for it.
Another time, my son didnt do his homework cuz he chose to watch a video instead so I let him get detention cuz i refused to tell the teacher he was ill.
Some people think I'm an awful parent, but how else am I to teach my children to screw their courage to the sticking post and take responsibility for their actions?
I once complained to the rspca about a neighbor, others phoned/wrote anonymously but i chose to tell them i did it and got a lot of abuse, but i was glad i stood up for what i believed to be wrong and said so openly.
I was threatened to have my house set on fire/get my head kicked in but still i would do it again.

Thank you. The Forum demands serious - Shazzyman gives serious.
I'm always like this be it 1am or 1pm.
I wont repeat the Sartre quote here. Sadly, I cant write like this for the paper i work at, so the forums and msn are my releases.
Alice, that is exactly the example of how beneficial a belief can be.
kudos on sticking to the right thing.

Errm read what i said again please Jim. And for fucks sake do you really need to feel the need to swear at people?? Who even mentioned closing this thread?? Put the drink down and actiually read what I said Sorry if you like arguments and conflict all the time but most of us dont. Its not all about what you like all the time. |
1 i wasnt drunk or even drinking, ..and 2 your locking loads of threads that people actually show an interest in. we're all adults are we not so let an actual adult discussion take place for once cos i for one am sick of the games thread.

| Italian Fascism? Did you know that the word Fascism is meant to refer only to Italian Fascism but has since been used to describe similar idealogies around the world? That intrigued me when I found out.

and another one said "Sieg Heil"

Saying things with a smile doesnt make them necessarily nicer to hear.

I would die for my beliefs, I believe very strongly in what I think is wrong or right.
But on another note bearing that in mind are people who kill themselves or others in the name of their beliefs any different from ourselves???
I personally would kill any one who touched my little sister, so is that any different to a suicide bomber who is killing for their beliefs???

I think you'll find that was the Germans, not Italians.

This is another example of the current problem I think. No one can say anything of interest (to some) without someone else making an (incorrect) snide comment.
21.04.2008, 22:23 quote
There are a lot of beliefs people have and would die for. I am a strong believer of some certain things and whats right and wrong. Also i have things i do NOT believe in and feel very strongly about. But then again ALL people wont feel the same.
I stand my ground if i believe something , but then again some people do not have the same beliefs as others. If that were the case and everyone believed in the same things - the world would be such a boring place
