My belief for example is that colours cultures and a racially tolerant society makes things easier for everyone? Anyone disagree ? Speaking for myself I have friends that are from totally alien backgrounds to me that have open my eyes to a lot of things I didn’t understand and im very grateful to it, ..as far as beliefs are concerned

It's from a German folk song which I happen to think is a beautiful and very stirring song.

The sun on the meadow is summery warm
The stag in the forest runs free
But gathered together to greet the storm -
Tomorrow belongs to me.
The branch on the linden is leafy and green
The Rhine gives its gold to the sea
But somewhere a glory awaits unseen -
Tomorrow belongs to me.
The babe in his cradle is closing his eyes
The blossom embraces the bee
But soon says the whisper, "Arise, arise" -
Tomorrow belongs to me.
Now Fatherland, Fatherland show us the sign
Your children have waited to see
The morning must come when the world is mine -
Tomorrow belongs to me.

20.04.2008, 21:43 quote
I try - and sometimes fail miserably - not to say anything on here that might cause offence. But, if I feel strongly about something, I don't see why I should pretend otherwise on these forums? I dont expect anyone else to. I prefer to politely agree to disagree.
However, if someone can * prove* me wrong, I am most willing to stand corrected, and admit I was wrong. ~In fact, one of the things I like about these forum debates is the opportunity to challenge my own ideas and thoughts, and will happily change my viewpoint if someone can convince me I was wrong.
However, as far as religious beliefs go, no one here is going to convince me otherwise, simply because mine are based on blind faith, and that is not tangible, if someone here can *prove* to me that God does not exist, then yes of course I would re-think my stance. But as to dying for my beliefs, well I would like to think I am strong enough not to deny God, but heck if I was threatened with being burned at the stake I might well not want to be a martyr and could well find it within me to lie to the bastards just to save my own skin?

Well said that lady, I know I'd tell them anything they like to save my skin, that's not cowardice, just plain common sense......

Personally, as generally non-religious man, I would never presume to try and convince you your religious beliefs are wrong anyway. You might think differently from me, but that means that you are just that - different, not wrong. I know some people are rabidly anti-religion and love to wind up people who believe in God, but what's the point? What does it really matter?

To be honest, when I was younger, I SssoooO wanted to have the courage and strength of self like Joan of Arc etc. But these days I just equate that kind of martyrdom with suicide bombers and I'm not so sure, like you say saving your own skin is the sensible thang to do!
Years ago, I worked for a man who was some big General and was in the Army during the war...he had changed his name to Jones because he was Jewish. He was a lovely guy and had medals galore for bravery...he just hid his beliefs to save his own skin, and others. I dont see that as an act of cowardice.
