I just don't understand boredom as there are so many things I want to do without the hours to do them in yet I have so many people message me when they get BORED.

What makes you bored, and why? Confused

I guess there are two kinds of boredom.
1. when what you are doing holds no interest for you - i find ironing very boring
2. when someone has nothing to do, or rather they cant be arsed to create something to do so they just sit there doing nothing saying "I'm bored".

When i was a kid, no one dared say "I'm bored", we'd soon find a duster in our hands, or sent out to feed the chickens or whatever, or worse still a clip round the ear and told to find a book to read!

I find generally when someone says they are bored they really mean "there are a zillion things i ought to be doing, but i dont like doing them, cant be motivated, so i want someone else to hold my attention for a while so i can put off doing these mundane things" -- thats when you get the meaningless chitchat pingpong PMs i reckon!

(my dad used to say "if you are feeling bored, its because you are being boring"~).

And that's when i'm on here, to put off doing the mundane stuff that i find unstimulating and boring, or make me sleepy enough to go to bed at gone 1am!

Oh I didn't even think about the boring mundane tasks at all.
Mind you, I once was a cheese wrapper, and everyone couldn't work out why I always liked such a boring job, but I loved doing it and my mind was always planning and thinking of all the other things I was going to do. Plus I used to try to beat my records of how many blocks I'd wrapped, but it was really something I never had to think about.

Ha! I was the same in a lightbulb factory last year. I needed to screw things together, The average was 140 for an 8h shift, the quota was 180, I cleared 240 on my first shift. The talk of the town I was yes I was. I also enjoyed planning things as I worked. Whilst others were seeing how they could get out of work as soon as possible I was seeing how I could further my life out of this factory as soon as possible. See the difference?

I kept my self as busy as possible as I didn't like talking to my working partner because he was a bit thick.

I had a financial incentive too, cos if I did more than 8x40lb blocks(and all the little ones they were cut into 100s) I would get half a crown for each extra one.

Hmm light bulb factory, used to be one behind where I lived, never knew they'd be screwing all day in there, none of them came out smiling Confused Guess they must have been bored

I sometimes say I'm bored when I'm not actually bored as such but just feeling slightly pissed off and not quite right. If that makes any sense.. it seems like a similar feeling to boredom to me.

My eldest is A.D.D and says "I'm bored" a lot. Of course he's not. Car journeys are the worst.

I entertain my self with word games, like in dutch "worst" means sausage. So the last sentence becomes:

Car journeys are the sausage.

I used to get bored a lot, but lately I'm just too busy to get bored.

Even when I am working (on call) and can't go out, if I find myself with nothing to do, I come on here, or go on PartyPoker.

I'm not that keen on poker really, I just love winding them up in the chat box.
They love it too (some of them), the serious players get quite stressed out about it, especially when I win......

I also play on Poker.com, not cos it is a good program to use, just because I have a cute budgie avatar, it is great just sitting there typing in 'chirpy chirpy cheap cheap' and 'watch the birdie' while playing the game, they quite like that too.......

(If anyone feels the need to test this out, then try it, I suggest 'your mamma' jokes are a great way to get started.........)

1. How to be annoying on line.

2. WRITE YOUR MESSAGES IN ALL CAPS AND DON'T USE RETURNS SO THAT EVERYONE HAS TO SCROLL ACROSS THEIR SCREENS TO READ EVERY LINE. ALSO USE A LOT OF !!!!! TO SHOW THAT YOU'RE EXCITED ABOUT BEING HERE!

3. When replying to your mail, correct everyone's grammar and spelling and point out their typos, but don't otherwise respond to the content of their messages. when they respond testily to your "creative criticism," do it again. Continue until they go away.

4. Be Megalone on a pokersite.

5. Software and files offered online are often "compressed" so that they won't take so long to travel over the phone lines. Buy a compression program and compress everything you send, including one-word e-mail responses like "Thanks."

bored to me, is simply a case of i've done everything i can at that precise time and have to wait a fair while till i can continue on with something else.. at which point i'll usually turn the tv on, then realise that 99.9% of the programs on the tele are in actual fact, shit. Hence, i become bored.
