Whats your opinion on this?

I think they should get rid of all those cameras....other countries also dont need to survey everything and in the end it does not help anyone either.

The only effect it has, is that sometimes funny videos of drunken people or of people having sex end up on some tv shows.

Once, the car of a friend of mine was broken into...it was directly in the focus of a surveillance camera - but the responsible officers then said "they did film it, but they have not recorded it....as it was too expensive to record everything." So in that case the camera had no effect and no use....and the criminals got away with it.

thats no way to talk about your friends when they have come to meet you for a trip down the pub caz Laughing

I think cctv is useful in some ways but useless in others. useless if its not recording or you cant get access to the recordings. they just got installed at one of the reception desks at work because of a spate of thefts, they havent put them in the offices yet, but you never know, in 5 years time they might. I dont think it stops much anti social crime in the streets though, after all, if your gonna nick something or smash it up you could just put a hood up and wear a bandanna on your face to disguise yourself. if you cant be identified you cant be convicted, simple as that really.

I think people who vandalize etc...do that because they are drunk or/and stupid and don't care whether they are being recorded or not...

In general I think it is better to get rid of the root of problems.....often this is also cheaper and has a more long-term effect. And the root of the problem is not alcohol and not the age of drinking....

The introduction of pub closing times ages ago or increasing the legal age for drinking was a bit short-sighted....

For example: a big gap between the real age when people start to drink and the legal age only leads to irresponsible drinking behaviour - as they "learn" how to drink from their friends and not from their parents.

In France the legal age for drinking wine etc is 14....in Germany the age for drinking is 16.....and are not as many alcohol related problems. And in those countries you can also buy alcohol anywhere....any supermarket, petrol station or even in vending machines at work or at the university refectory.

If something is forbidden....it is more interesting...especially to children/teenagers.

Cameras...The UK is the most surveilanced country in the world...They don't stop crime, they don't stop the yobs...As someone said, get to the root of the problem, but as short sighted as we are, we won't...We'll just beat them down and smash them up...Real good clear case of showing a good example to the younger generation, if you use force, you get your way...I learned that from my teachers at school, they enforced a rigid discipline with the threat of physical violence -the belt....Yobbishness is nothing new, and the old answer of beating them into submission never worked back then, certainly won't work now...

Why is there so many cameras?....One thing is to control, other is to make money...Let's face it, the police chiefs, the council chiefs, MPs, MSPs, fire chiefs, all need to stuff more of our money into their pockets folks... Rolling Eyes

The corruption and yobbishness are followed on from the examples of our illustrious leaders (remember Two Jag's violent outburst at a cameraman), it is no wonder there are so many drunken riots in our streets...
