I have been accused by poeticprince of being a miserable wanker simply because I commented on the hypocrisy of many English people going loony over St. Patrick's day when they don't care about St. George's day or even know when it is. It's just something that I find odd.

Unfortunately the thread got locked before I could respond to this. He seemed to think it was a "religious" rant. It was hardly that, because I'm not a religious man and was not even commenting upon the religious side of it, merely the weird hypocrisy that surrounds English people celebrating an Irish saint's day when they couldn't care less about their own.

That's all it was.

I didn't mean to upset anyone - I was giving my opinion, to which I thought I was perfectly entitled. Quite frankly I was a bit suprised when so many people seemed to get the hump and make a mountain out of a molehill.

So, I ask you, am I a "miserable wanker" merely for having an opinion, or is this still a site where people can say what they think, as it always seems to have been since I joined? Or are we only allowed to state opinions as long as everyone else agrees with them?

Should be amusing.

Oh alright, I clicked the other one.........

I think you are rather extreme at times, yes, but you do have some rather interesting things to say too, and I don't think that should be overlooked either.
Being extreme will rub some people up the wrong way though......

I agree, everyone is entitled to their own opinions..what a shitty boring world this would be if we all agreed with each other..but my point is..maybe a little tact could be used from time to time..along with respect for other users..

So on that note..no your just maybe a little more opinionated than the rest of us Moose..but defo not a sad W***er.. Very Happy

Well im not religious in any way shape or form, ..although I wear a cross just to edge my bets if I get hit by a bus Very Happy . I don’t celebrate St. Georges day although I am VERY proud to be English and think that a lot of our English pride and culture has gone the way of the dodo this day and age, …not going to get into that though. I don’t celebrate St Patrick’s day either although as a Guinness drinker you could say I celebrate that all year round anyway Laughing

Certainly dont think your a wanker moose, ...shame a lot more people arent as straight forward, ....a few words of honesty is a lot more worthwhile than a thousand words of bollox

After giving this issue a fair bit of thought (about 30 seconds, could be a record), I have come to the conclusion that if I were in your shoes, I would be pissed right off about this.
And for the record, I WONT let anyone get away with calling ME miserable!

I'm not pissed off about it, I'm just really suprised at the reaction it got and in particular that hippy bloke found it necessary to insult me for my opinion. There's a fair bit of banter on this site, which I take part in myself, but at the end of the day that's all it is, banter. I've never actually flung insults at anyone just because I disagreed with them.

I like a person to call a spade a shovel.
And anyway - the way I read it back there it was your accuser who had the (Anti) religious rant, not you love.

I'll say stay for what its worth.

St George? The only reason he was popular enough to become our patron saint (whom we share with a number of other countries) is because he slew a dragon.....which is a very heathen idea of hero-ism.
All that stuff about devout Christianity and getting himself knocked off by some Emperor is by the by.

So tell me, as a proud Englishmen, does the names Hengist and Horse ring any bells for you?
