Interesting, more interesting is the whole pot vs booze debate, it's a proven fact that alcohol causes more deaths/injuries than weed, i personally would prefer to see the roles reveresed, alcohol less freely available and weed more easily available.

I agree Ryan. The only thing thing I would want to know at this point tho' is, just how many people start off on weed and go onto something harder.

Well yeah there is always that concern, but surely the same can be said for ciggies, how long before someone encounters weed?

Weed isn't the starting point for drug abuse, i dont do a lot but from what i've had its always given me the feeling of being happy and very drunk, without all the booze lol, and i've never been tempted to go onto anything else, i have been offered E but turned it down.

It's all down to the person really, to be informed and educated enough to know what the drugs are going to do to you, i know that after weed, the majority of drugs have a massive impact on you in some way or another, i know that weed in itself has a negative affect on your brain/body, but id like to argue that alcohol too has a negative effect on your brain/body

alcohol does have a negative effects on health when abused.

Short-term effects

A small amount of alcohol will relax you and make you feel less anxious. But alcohol is a depressant of the central nervous system. In increasing amounts it suppresses the part of your brain that controls judgement, resulting in a loss of inhibitions. It also affects your physical co-ordination, causing blurred vision, slurred speech and loss of balance. Drinking a very large amount at one time (binge drinking) can lead to unconsciousness, coma, and even death. Vomiting while unconscious can lead to death by asphyxiation (suffocation).

Alcohol is involved in a large proportion of fatal road accidents, assaults and incidents of domestic violence.

Long-term effects

Alcohol can be a dangerous drug. Drinking too much too often will cause physical damage, increase the risk of getting some diseases, and make other diseases worse. Excessive drinking over time is associated with:

* hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver
* gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) or pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
* high blood pressure (which can lead to stroke)
* certain types of cancer, including mouth and throat
* damage to the brain
* heart failure
* neurological problems such as epilepsy
* certain types of vitamin deficiency

Excessive drinking has also been linked to:

* obesity
* sexual problems
* infertility
* muscle disease
* skin problems

Psychological effects

Although alcohol initially makes people feel relaxed, long term excessive use can ultimately increase anxiety and cause depression. It is also related to problems with sleeping, mood-swings, violence and suicide (about two-thirds of suicide attempts are thought to involve alcohol).

With all the statistics and effects that are gettin thrown about, i would like to take this oppertunity to say... it doesnt matter what drug that people take from coffee to heroin. the diverse affects will only be highlited when somebody goes over the score. Moderation is the key. How do people know they are abusing rather than using. and when is it too late (if ever) Could YOU admit a problem. And if so what would you do about it? Soz. Work as a support worker with alcoholics and drug users. Peace, love and happiness

Perhaps...

There was a thing on TV last night - 50 things about food or something - one of these counting down programmes. Anyway, i turns out that almost everything is bad for you, even banannas and grapes, and as for burgers - well, the conclusion was that you cant eat just burgers and chips for 25 years and not have any bad side effects. As for beer - its only bad if you drink enough to be drunk or too much and dont work of the calories.

Im all for statistics and you can get all that you want, so Ill pick and choose the ones I want to believe - 5 portions of fruit and veg - chocolate grows on trees so is a fruit, beer isnt bad for me, but salad is (well, the pre packed ones), the atkins diet and all the rest of it. So basically I can eat and drink all I want whenever I want.
