Liquorice! But I understand it can be quite toxic in not so high doses so I am trying to control the urges Laughing

Yes, it's toxic but you'd have to eat something like 6 tons in one day to build up enough toxins for it to kill you.

Everything you eat or drink is toxic in some way if you check up on it.

I'm addicted to Spogs. Those little aniseed flavoured jelly buttons from the liquorice allsorts packs. It's very rare to find Spogs sold in the shops around here any more.

According to data on the wikipedia:

Doses as low as 50 grams (2 oz) of liquorice daily for two weeks can cause a significant rise in blood pressure.

50g is not much and since I had been eating liquorice almost daily this is the kind of thing I was talking about. With that in mind, somebody who already has hypertension may be at a significantly increased risk of a stroke or heart attack by eating these smaller doses of liquorice each day. That is quite different to your fun exageration of 6 tons in a day. Laughing

Also from the wiki

A 56-year-old Yorkshire woman was hospitalized after liquorice overdose (200 grams or 7 ounces a day), which caused muscle failure. The hospital restored her potassium levels, by intravenous drip and tablets, allowing her to recover after 4 days.

Still addicted to these mint toffees today Razz

Oh dear! Methinks I'm in a high risk category and need to think twice about quantities I may safely eat and I love liquorice or may be combined it with bananas that are high in potasssium.

Totally addicted to maps and researching my route for next year. It's not going to stop until I get it all sorted out too. I have a book coming about a long distance path that no longer exists, which should help me complete the puzzle.

I like to indulge in a little bit of Hill Walking, Maps are essential tools, and now you're telling me not to trust them? I think I need a new hobby!

I have a Silva Expedition 4 compass and I use the OS Explorer maps. They're what I was taught to use and I have been using them for over half my life.
I use others for other things, but if I'm out on the hills they're the only ones for me.
