Just wondered if anyone else has noticed this:

When you start out on this site you rapidly realise that for about every 10 people you message, only 1 replies.

So then you think 'marry it' and message 100 people...
and then end up with 10 little flirtbox relationships.

So then you get scared and ditch a load, maybe giving your msn/facebook details to 1 or 2.

Then these lose interest and after going through this cycle a few times you end up realising that for every 10 people you add to facebook, only 1 ends up meeting in real life...

So you think 'marry it' and message 1000 people on flirtbox, 100 reply, 10 get upgraded to facebook friends, and 1 ends up going out with you!

...And then one day you look at your facebook friends list and realise that the vast majority are people from flirtbox, and the male:female ratio of your friends is heavily biased towards the opposite love.

You've become a 'collector'.

(maybe a slight exaggeration of the numbers, but you get the idea)

I normally get replies from 9 out of 10 people i message on here. They never seem to go anywhere though - well, not up to now anyway, with me only being here for a couple of weeks. I have run up my fone bill on a couple already, but again, they have just proven to be liars in some capacity. I get witty and nice compliments sent to me direct, regarding my postings on here, but usually the peeps are too far away to meet up. Then, i get the occasional silent one who doesn't reply. Just consider them ignorant. I probably get 2 out of 60 messages that are rude, and prob' 1 out of 100 asking for love. Other than that, just be yourself. That's all you can be. And out of the blue she will just contact you, and drop into your lap... like an anvil!!!

Haha!! Never really thought about it as 'collecting people' but I think most of my messages are answered or else there wasn't a reply needed and 'cos my profile says I'm not looking, some people have taken notice so I don't get as much mail as I used to.

I'd say about a quarter of my facebook friends are from this site, another quarter are my gaming or special interest friends and half are my 'real world' friends and family.

It's hard to keep up with everyone really but I do value and like the people from here that I have as friends on facebook and some I've know for about 4 years now and have periods of increased interaction with them according to what's going on in life.

Not sure I've sent an 10 messages to people that dont come on the forums, in the 4 years I've been on here. But yo can pick people up on facebook.

The vast majority of my 'friends' on facebook, I have met, and have a cull occasionally. I dont accept 'anybody'. I have to know them fairly well.

Actually I must have got my current profile right, because most people reply to my messages now. You also learn to spot the types that won't reply.

Anyhow, yes Jeggs, I had a facebook cull recently too!

bounderushu, it's like the funnel rule in marketing: 100 prospects see your ad, 10 of them pay some interest to your merchandise and only 1 of the latter buy it! Sorry for association if you found it rude... but what are people about there if not to expose themselves in a most attractive manner?... If you worry of growing into 'women's collector' just cease to add them to your facebook... Or create the other profile particulary for that purpose, or fan page... lol

scriptwriter, i wish i had such compelling writing skill as you have... So it's no surprise why you celebrate this high responces' percentage!

missjb, no, its not rude or inpolite, it's up to your free will to decide who to add and refuse, however moaners don't understand any explanations often... then put the deaf ear to them is the only recourse
