I've done coke, e, poppers and weed. At the time I loved it all. I think I was very lucky. I could either take it or leave it and luckily never became addicted to any of it. Looking back I can't believe how stupid I was and what risks I was taking with my own health. Even after a good mate had a bad reaction to e (nothing too serious thank God), I still took drugs. I think I've grown up a bit since then. The mates that I took it with have stopped too. If anything, giving up the cigs is the hardest thing!
I can understand why someone would take drugs. It can be great fun while it lasts. I'm just glad nothing bad came out of it for me and my friends. It's a real shame that a guy died after one line of coke. When I lived in Amsterdam I'd see people (usually tourists) take 7 or 8 pills at a time, throw up then take some more. Now that is just stupid!

drug addiction, like alcohol addiction and any other addiction you care to name, is a disease, an illness. you can view it in black and white if you like and say that the person always has a choice. we know they have a choice, sometimes that choice is not always the best choice, sometimes people make mistakes in their lives and sometimes people pay the ultimate price for it. someone died, someone lost a father, someone lost a partner, lets not loose sight of compassion and moralize over that. lifewasted...i am sorry about what happened to your friend, i hope their family and friends are coping with their terrible loss. and thanx for passing on that message of what drugs can do to a person.

You're right addiction is an illness, but I read it that the chap wasn't addicted but an occasional user. He apparently died of heart attack which may have happened sooner or later. Possibly he had heart or blood pressure problems he never knew about.
I'm not addicted to beer, but I suspect I've drunk more then is good for me over the year's. I should imagine over the years lots of occasional beer drinkers have died of heart attack because of drinking too much on a perticular day. Most of us abuse our bodies in one way or another, sometimes that could be too much exercise.

Ringer is probably right, but there's and old saying..those in glasshouses......
He has been on here informing everyone he is drinking beer, which is possibly a worse form of abuse then coke, which may causes more misery and illness.
Its the ones they leave behind that suffer.

I do drink beer yes, but I don't abuse it.

Coke is bad, real bad, worse than beer, I have no sympathy for people that die from drug abuse, and I refer to hard drug abuse.

I'm not sure it is worse, but maybe you know more about it and have the stats on how much misery each drug causes. I know some regular coke takers as well as alcohol drinkers, and personally I can see alcohol has caused more problems and deaths then alcohol..and lets not talk about smoking, the worse drug of the lot. But the amount of alcohol abusers I know outweighs the coke abusers though.

But in saying that I have no sympathy for the people that die, but for the people they leave behind. We all know the dangers of these things, whether its drinking, drugs or smoking.
But as this chap died of heart attack he may have had other health problems that should have been addressed.

Beer is a legal beverage, which, consumed in moderation, is consistent
with a healthy lifestyle. In fact, a number of scientific studies have
associated moderate beer consumption with healthy benefits, including a
reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease - an issue that deserves
further study.

On the other hand, marijuana, crack, cocaine, and heroin are illegal
substances that are destructive to the user's health regardless of the
frequency of use.

Scientific studies change on a daily basis and change depending on what is asked, what outcomes are wanted, and who is paying for them. Surprised

People are taking marijuana for health reasons..and most of the other drugs that are being abused, were developed for medical reasons.
Possibly one pint of beer a day is good for you, but two pints may not be. I suspect you have drunk more beer then that's good for you from time to time, and I suspect not many people that drink alcohol drink it for health reasons.

And there are many drugs that taken in moderation and haven't been tampered with, that are healthy!! For instance, did you know that marijuana is proven to be good for athritis sufferers? It's also excellent for those that suffer severe migraines. Alcohol on the other hand even in moderation taken on a daily basis can still be bad for you! It's proven that red wine is good for you yes, but spirits aren't. Beer isn't either.

Alcohol, smoking, recreational drugs etc all have the potential to be lethal.

And Bernard, lets not forget the reason for this thread. The person that lost their friend wasn't after a debate about drugs or anything else that's bad for us. Have some bloody compassion for their loss for christs sake!
