Well of course I have people I consider mates as well but I also have those I consider true friends who I know will be there for me through thick and thin but whether they are real friends or just mates I still wouldnt give them up for any relationship without just cause i.e they tried it on with my man etc |
I agree with you, but you have to see a good partner maybe 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. They have to be true friends and should always be there for you. Your so called friends/mates you see in short doses, and could well let you down.
I have got loads of people I considered friends 20 years ago, but now they are only mates because of things that have happened.
If you have a partner you expect to have long term, they will be more important then people you imagine [sic] to be your friends.
I think of things a bit different then I did 20 years ago.

| Would you give up male or female friends just to please a partner? Even if one of them was a ex? |
My definitive answer after a bit of thought...depends on what I thought of the partner and the reasons why.

No, I wouldn't. I only give up friends if I have a good reason.
I was once in a situation where an ex boyfriend (when we were together, obviously) wanted me to stop going to the pub with my friends(who are male..) on a saturday for the football. I refused point blank. Weekends are the only times I get to see my friends, so I'm not going to stop doing that JUST because some bloke asks me to.

I think not...why should you give up a good relationship with someone...it just doesn't happen like that (imho)...if a new partner cannot accept the fact that you have friends then they are more than likely insecure and not for you.
You can only be as honest as what the truth is...the only doubts come into the relationship when either a) you know you are not telling the truth, or b) the new partner convinces themself something is not the truth.
My advice...keep your friends you chose them as your friends and even though you chose your partner, wil they still appreciate and love you for who you are in a year's time? How many relationships fail after a year or less?
Cheers and good luck
Mike
