I have given up smoking now for over 2 months. I went on the no-smoking clinic programme at my local medical centre. Started on the patches (I agree), they didn't work. So I then went on the "Champix" programme (which I hear costs £400 for the 12 week course). I ended up giving up and reducing the tablet intake and finishing the course early. I think it is the only programme that works, but you must attend the meetings and have your carbon monoxide reading taken. Give it a go.

My mate also is on Champix and the moment and has so far been completely stopped for 4 weeks so seems to be a success for her. I am trying the patches just now and although I am fine all day, I am struggling to not buy a packet at night and have given in on more than one occasion. Got a visit to the docs tomorrow though so I am going to ask to try the Champix and get it on prescription

All patches/placebos aside, your biggest ally will be sheer will-power. It won't be easy, so there's no point in looking for an easy fix that will do the job for you.
Good luck with this, though - it'll change a lot of things in your life. For the better.
