I've seen this a lot in dating ads and I've often wondered what it means.

I hope that it doesn't mean that these women are adverse to people who play games more complex than Monopoly or Ludo. Life without an occasional game of Settlers of Catan or any of the other, classic thinking games would be a fairly spartan existence!

I've tended to interpret it as a man who doesn't mess women around.

Bear in mind I'm the bloke who though GSOH was Genuine Single - Own Home. Embarassed

I'm assuming it's being used in the context of "don't fool around with other women", "don't go behind my back". A reasonable thing to ask and to expect really.

Settlers of Catan... I think I've heard of that. What's it about?

It is a quite famous German-style board games, so called because there is a big continental market for games that get adults around a table for a game.

It even has it's own Wikipedia page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Settlers_of_Catan

It's quite an abstract game but very enjoyable and strategic.

Interesting view on the main question, BTW.

Sweet. I think some guys at my local gaming shop play that or something similar.

I'm more into TCGs and DnD myself though.

I first started with pen & paper role-playing games in 1977 (when I was eleven) with Games Workshop's Blue Box edition of D&D.

It was bought at a model railway exhibition. I don't think GW had even opened a single shop by then. This was back when GW sold more than just over-priced figures and cash-hungry wargames.

Ironically I'm not a big fan of the current version of D&D because it is too much like a Trading Card Game with bizarre powers and wierd mechanics.

I'm currently working on the lastest edition of Traveller but I might abandon this rewrite to produce some more saleable writing instead.

Awwwww bless @ GSOH lol Own home? lol

Your interpritation is correct as far as i'm aware most women dont have a problem with ''board games''.....(although i've never heard of the couple that you mentioned)

What they dont want is to be 'played' with or messed around......

I used to enjoy the odd game of Mahjong myself Smile

Funnily enough women are more attracted to men who do play games. LOL

As for the ones who put that in their profile... Maybe they met too many players and... Yeah, well, wha do I know anyway? Razz

There certainly is a lot of cross-over in the language used to describe intellectual "gamers" and exploitative "players".

I must admit that I miss my old gaming group in Aylesbury, where every member was a programmer and/or computer scientist, regardless of gender.

We were mainly assembled from former employees of the same computer anti-virus company (Dr Solomon's) so I guess the credentials of the group weren't too much of a surprise.

is it fair to say women dont know 100% what they want from a man, and not playing games is included in this list. If no games were played it'd be as simple as hey, wanna go out and get married? I both love and hate the games, it makes things interesting, but unpredictableO_O.

True, but some women probably don't know want they want from themselves, let alone men

Oftentimes I find myself quoting Dr Eric Berne.
This time I won't.
I shall just suggest read his book "Games People Play" and Transactional Analysis.
Yes, we all do it.
We would all be wooden Stepford men and women if we didn't.

When women put "don't want a man who plays games" in their profile, to me it simply shouts oooops she's had a bad relationship break-up where she didn't understand the man and is blaming him for all that went wrong between them.
Ditto, usually a man saying it about a woman is because he was with a woman whom he had no idea how to please either, or they simply had differing agendas. Razz
