Best way to work up to half marathon distance running? (13 miles)

Don’t get me wrong I love my gym instructor, especially in lycra and on the inner thigh working machine but the program she set for me is pansy ass.

I guess it doesn’t help that I went for my fitness test hung-over and refuse to let her weight me but it was a party and the only person that gets to tell me I’m a fatass is my doctor.

Try runners world, there are loads of different training programs depending on what level you are at.

the whole "SUBSCRIBER-ONLY CONTENT" is annoying but some useful information.

I'll read it tomorrow after work.

Half marathon - missme is right as always, loads of stuff on runersworld.

I run for fun an occasionally go mental enough to do the odd half or marathon, I build up to run 6 or 7 miles and after that the half marathon is about mental strength to keep going. Start slow and keep plodding till you get there.

To build up distance pick a circular route, 6 miles long on the road and run 1 mile down it, turn round and run home, repeat untill you are comfortable with the distance and your legs dont seize up the next day. Then run 1 mile down the road and a bit more (the next road sign, corner, or marker), turn round and back again, and keep going like that untill you are nearly half way round when you turn back. Then say sod it and do the whole loop. There you have the stamina now, keep treining till the half marathon. Run the thing and enjoy it.

Build up speed the same way, just make each run a little quicker than before rather than a little further.

Training plans are OK but dont take into account your lifestyle so so long as you are going out 3 times a week you should be OK. Or I am anyway

You should be fit enough to get round and be happy with a couple of months training I think

Yeah I agree with this, I'm loosely following a plan from RW but I can't stick to it rigidly due to commitments etc so I just adapt it to suit me.

Thanks guys,

I’d love to say this was for fun kebabman but truthfully I have more then enough reasons that motivation really really really isn’t a problem.

Anyways slim my man, i'm after the all úber six pack, but can't seem to strip the layer of fat off my tum that's covering it up grrr, any fat-blasting excerises you could recommend?

dunno if you read it or not but in the march issue of mens health magazine theres a book about fat burning foods, i.e foods that have a negative calorie value. theres also a full 2 weeks meal plan with about 3 different types of fat burning diet. tis worth buying the issue for the book as its proper with recipes and loads of technical advice. i aint got no fat to burn as ive always been slim and i buy like the articles in that magazine. im on a bulking diet now....similar to a seafood diet, i see food and i eat it Laughing Laughing

i know, old joke

I’ve tried a few foods with negative calorie value I’d rather eat grass, more taste.
