I can't post what it is exactly I want to do so lets just put it this way. You know you found out you have access to some thing massive and this thing is some thing you could live without but you also know it will massively improve your life for the better. Problem is although you know 100% you won't get caught, you know accessing this thing is extremely bad or even maybe illegal.

How do you decide if you should do it or not?

Does it carry a possible jail sentence? Then it ain't worth it.

Could it hurt someone, even a stranger, in the long run? Then don't do it.

Do you have a conscience? You wouldn't be putting the question in here if you didn't. If I have to wrestle with my conscience over something, then it's usually not worth the guilt I no doubt would feel if it were me.

But at the end of the day, only you can make a decision about something that doesn't sit quite right with you.

Good luck.

ps. If it doesn't carry a possible jail sentence, can I come in on it? Wink

If you think this "resource" is bad or possibly illegal then you carefully consider why you think this is the case and what you feel about it.

For if you exploit the "resource" then you become complicit with it's means of acquisition, so you should only be going into this with your eyes wide open and with as full a picture as possible.

For ethics aren't just a public affair. Being as consistent as possible, even when you think you won't be discovered, can be a source of strength.

Another thing to consider is if there is an alternative use for the "resource"? One that would seek to counter it's possibly bad or illegal side?

There are no easy answers to this kind of thing but this is my quick run down.

Good luck.

establish the facts first - find out if it is actually illegal and take your decision from there - if it is illegal - don't do it, simple as.

"Unto thine own self be true"
I think this is a question of CONSCIENCE so it's only you that can make the decision. Seems like you already know the issues and risks involved.
Not sure about the 100% being true though.

Having in the past here happily posted about how you take illegal drugs for fun and know full well the risks of 'getting caught' breaking the law, I would hazard a guess and say the "illegal" issue here is not what bothers you, but your own conscience.
If it goes against your own moral code, and you are obviously struggling with it already by asking us, make a proud decision to leave well alone, and you will feel the better man for it.

Well your right about the legality thing, like you say, I take illegal drugs, I download copyright material and if I have to I may take a piss in an alley when i've had to much to drink. I don't feel guilty at all about these things.

This thing as such isn't illegal in it self, its sought of like a loop hole kind of thing. On paper it isn't strictly illegal but if in the very much unlikely case of it being brought in front of a judge then it wouldn't be a good thing.

I guess that fact that I can easily admit to those things above without guilt but would be ashamed to say what it is I am thinking of doing kind of answers my question for myself.

The hard part is living with the temptation.

Thanks for your advice anyway, some times helps just to write things down in a forum like this, even if the answers from others seem insignificant.

That's why I mentioned the difference between whats "illegal" and what goes against one's own moral code.
Sometimes the law is an ass, my son got done for peeing in a hedge (no one to see but the security camera in the carpark at midnight). Crazy or what?!

Oh yes, temptation can be a bugger at times! Crying or Very sad
As you say, being ashamed just thinking about doing something, let alone voicing it to others, is the answer anyways. Wink
It's our conscience that gives us our boundaries.

Whatever you decide, I hope you remain true to yourself and are happy with the resulting feelings.
Very Happy
