My cat is pregnant. I've looked on several websites, they all say that the female loses interest in boy cats (and vice versa) when she knows she she pregnant.
My question is, does anybody know when she knows she is pregnant? Is it hours, days or a week or what - after 'the deed' has been done?
I ask because my cat came home one morning 4 weeks ago with 2 boy cats in tow, as soon as she came into the flat, both boys cleared off and havent been seen around here since. And she stopped wanting to go out. But neighbors have told me they'd seen these two boy cats with her for at least 2 weeks previous. (wished someone had bothered to tell me, i would have had her neutered immediately, instead of waiting til it was too late).
Now, tonight she should be 4 weeks since that day i saw her with them, she's quite small (only 7 months old) but she's suddenly gotten a HUGE belly today so i am wondering if she's due sooner, rather than later.
So, if anyone knows how soon a girl cat knows she's pregant and loses interest in the boy cats, I would be really grateful.
(and sorry to ramble!).[/list]

Well, okay, I'll give to you what little I know, hopefully it will help create some kind of timescale or benefit yourself if not others in the future.

Okay, a general cat pregnancy is around nine months in total. At about three weeks of pregnancy the females nipples will start to turn pink. Towards the 5th week she will put on more weight though until this stage I doubt you will be able to notice a change (Litter size may affect this though so be wary). After this stage her nipples will become larger as she begins to start developing milk.

Other signs she is pregnant are that she will venture less and less outside if she is a usual outdoor cat (My friends cat is more lazy so this was harder to notice). Also she will begin to eat more (The process is very similar to a human pregnancy in that sense) so I suggest feeding her as this will be used for her offspring. Finally, she may become more loving, e.g. more cuddling up to you, sitting on your lap or any other emotional display.

I do have to say this is regurgitated from memory when my friends cat was pregnant, we found this advice (more or less) on a website, I can't find a link to it so if anyone finds a site with similar notes then please just post the link Smile

Thanks lemonka for that info - good job I knew you meant nine weeks, not months though! Laughing

Umm, yeah all the websites seem to tell me just what you say, and from my reckoning going on that alone, she's about 7 weeks now, not 4...tumtetum, t'is hard cuz she's mainly an indoor cat anyways and always been real cuddly/loving too, so no real change there - except she's taken to sleeping all night under my duvet with me!
The websites say you wont notice 'the bump' til the last minute with a younger, first-time mum, and well in that case it must be imminent!
It;s just a waiting game now I guess, I will let you all know when she goes pop and post the piccies!
Thanks again, rocketgirl.
