What do you do to motivate yourself to achieve your goals in life? was there ever a time in your life that you just feel uninspired or you just don't know where you're headed to? what did you do about it?

there are times when the things that used to motivate you doesn't work anymore ... i used to think change was good from time to time to infuse a fresh outlook on things ... but too much change is not good all the time

if you are having trouble motivating yourself.. perhaps there is something deeper that needs addressing. A stress that needs dealing with or the right piece to fit your puzzle..

yeah ...i need to search for that missing piece of my puzzle ... the problem is that I don't know how that puzzle is supposed to look like ... it's not like those that you buy from shops with the picture on the box ... what if the picture on the box is the wrong one? Confused

This is puzzling! Have you got a puzzle, or not?
Have you got a bit missing, or not?
Did they just put the wrong puzzle in the wrong box?
(Oh, OK, I’m kidding! Or you can take it as a metaphor for your problem!)

Life is just one long puzzle; nobody gives us a manual or a definitive picture to work with; and there are always bits missing. But we make it up as we go along.
If you’re not going along, or don’t know where you’re going, or don’t like where you are going – you are the only one who can sort that out.
You can get some help, but it stops with you – because you’re the one who knows your life and can decide what you want.
First, keep doing all the mundane things (if you can): eat, sleep, exercise, and work, etc. But take some time out: go and see some of those lovely foreign films!
Second talk: talk to someone. If you can’t or won’t talk to your family or friends, get some professional help. This need not cost money. You can ask to see a counsellor at your doctor’s surgery. Or you could try Relate, or Citizens Advice Bureau. Search around: there will be someone there to help.
Then you wait and you wait. Go and see some more French and Spanish films!
It’ll come to you – what you must do.

If it doesn’t… Well, look on the bright side! Wink
You’ll be an expert on world movies!
Hey, let us know when you're on Mastermind, in the black chair! Laughing Laughing

Thanks very much for your advice ... I have really no intention of puzzling anyone lol! what you've written are very insightful although the part on needing professional help i think is no longer necessary ... lol! I'm not really depressed or anything ... just uninspired to do more than what I need to do ... and I feel a bit philosophical lately and wondering if there are others out there who might be pondering about the same things ... I guess there usually comes a point in one's life that you start to think if this is what you wanted to be doing for the rest of your life ... what would perfectly fit the puzzle?

hmmm that Mastermind thing was a good idea ...who knows ... I might join that one day Razz

Once the thought arises it's difficult to shake, isn't it?
Even asking yourself the question suggests something, does it not?
But shorten the time a bit! Wink '... for the rest of your life...' seems a long time to me.
What about '...for the next year?' Or even '... for the next 5 years?'
If you've come to diverging pathways, read Robert Frost's poem The Road Not Taken:

(The poem you posted, The Invitation. Wow! Too long! God, she must get paid by the word? Rolling Eyes It sounded, in part, like she was describing Zorba the Greek! Laughing )

I think asking that question is not that bad ... many others have asked the same question and they are now leading happy and successful lives once they were able to figure things out. It challenges you to look for other options and prepare for the risks that need to be taken.

Individuals may have different definitions of "motivation" as well. I may not be too motivated but I may be contented ... Why do people need to get motivated more? to achieve more money? fame? success? even contentment may be viewed in 2 ways ... on the plus side you are happy with what you currently have on the other hand, it could lead to mediocrity or stagnation (careerwise) ... i guess it all boils down to what you considered valuable in life ... it's probably better to be inspired to do something because you believe in it or you are doing things for someone Very Happy

besides ... who doesn't anticipate weekends or wake on on a Monday morning wishing it's already Friday ... I guess everyone of us is guilty of some form of not being that motivated sometimes Razz

I'm very close in getting a career that I have always wanted since a kid, but before this (Jan-June 2008, exactly) I was doing nothing as I dropped out of college for personal reasons and felt as if I wasn't going anywhere and the rest of my life will be spent going from job-to-job earning the absolute bare minimum. So, I sat down, I looked at what I've always wanted to do and what I want in the foreseeable future and therefore I set myself mini-goals, and now I'm very close to getting that career (not putting all my eggs in one basket, mind).

Probably not the answer you are looking for, but hope it helps!

Basically, what I'm saying is I look at what I want in life and do what I possibly can to get it, whether it be setting mini-goals or talking to other people to gain advice. Hope I don't sound like a snob or anything..
