Well I'm in week seven. Had my review with the nurse today and she was happy with my progress. One more week and I enter phase 2....2 weeks of lower strength patches, then stage 3 is 2 weeks of the lowest strength the after that I am off the patchs and officially a none smoker!
Just need to get my flat mate to stop now. I could always grass hm up to his sister who doesn't know he smokes. She would shame and or bully hm into stopping!

Good luck as you go for the lower strength patches, was ok myself with the first drop, but the going from middle strength to the lowest ones I found really difficult!
Mind you if your will power is still going strong you should be ok.
The will power is where I was lacking! I thought I'd be able to just social smoke and have the odd one or 2 every few weeks when I went out! Big mistake, its gotta be all or nothing! Needless to say I'm back on smoking properly again. Gonna have to give it a go giving up again soon.
Just spent the last year loosing the weight I put on whilst giving up!

I said this time it was all or nothing. I gave up once before with a friend and thought one or two here and there would be ok but was quickly back on 20 a day.
Not that I feel any better for giving up. I've had a constant cough. The nurse says it's my body getting rid of the crap. That cough had just gone and then I caught cold!

Im an ex smoker so i know how hard it is to give up, the first month is the hardest but if you can stick it out you get to a stage where you start to look at other smokers and cant belive you you used to do such a stupid habit, after all what do you get from smoking? A: relief from the craving, so once youve beat it there is no point in doing it anymore. as a london cabbie i can tell you that smokers stink, when a smoker gets in my cab it never fails to shock me just how much they smell.
good luck

I've never smoked and have always been disgusted by it. My mother smoked constantly and announced to the world on many occasions how much she loved it and how nothing would ever induce her to give up. Now she is on a ventilator and can only say two or three words at a time before disssolving into paroxysms of coughing and choking. She has chronic emphysema. She weighs next to nothing, has virtually no mobility and her entire "life" is one of constant medication and inhalers. She has had no social life for some years and relies on GP and nurse visits as her only contact with the outside world. She has no conversation (almost impossible anyway) other than her illness.
To anyone reading this, stop smoking now.

take up an aerobic activity, jogging or even walking. it takes you away from smoking as you start to feel the benefits of a healthy life. drink plenty of water even if it makes you uncomfortable, you'll soon get used to it. take deep breaths every now and then, it drives away the craving. finally, when you see someone smoking, compliment yourself that you succeeded and he/she did not. sympathise with smokers, dont envy them. its all in the head, so keep it simple. its far more difficult to pick up smoking than to quit. patches dont work, will power does. enjoy every hour of not smoking, then days, weeks and soon you will be free. all the best.

when i felt like i needed a fag i stopped what i was doing and then breathed in through my nose and out through my mouth very deeply and slowely. but you have to concentrait on the breathing rather than the craving hope this helps
