** Mods, if this is not allowed on this website, I fully accept that this thread will be deleted.**

Ok, so I have never been on e-bay before.
Been looking at their website and decided to try to sell some stuff.
I opened a basic account with my bank.

Now what?

I mean, I know I am going to have to open a sellers account with e-bay, and a paypal account but has anybody on here got any useful advice for me please?

Thank you!

Personally I think its allowed as you are not promoting another website, simply asking for advice on something that provides a selling service for several members of the forum.

I'd be interested to hear more as well, as I have set up an account but don't know how to get started.

Research the item you are thinking of selling as if there are loads of the same thing on there its not very likely you are going to get a good price or even sell it at all

The photos are the thing that sells it for you so make sure you have good pics, different angles, makers marks etc...

Starting price - start you item at the lowest price you are willing to accept, higher starting prices do put people off bidding or they may wait till the last minute to bid...

When I started out I went into the Q & A community boards (I still do) for any tips...

Dont overcharge on the postage, I just cover mine or sometimes loose out (but thats my fault for being lazy & not weighing it)

Make your listing stand out, use larger font, clear & readable, describe things fully, even any faults if there are any...

It's very exciting starting out I must say, I love the whole process....it has gone very quiet at the moment, just like everywhere, no ones buying...which is not good...

Just have fun, its really not difficult, if you get stuck i'm always around, somewhere (not so much after the 1st Dec)

Excellent Freda thanks!

I am just thinking of getting shot of some stuff that I was going to give to the charity shop or even up the local tip as that's closer and I'm basically a lazy sod, so will definitely underprice everything, and if it dont sell, well I am told the costs of advertising is really pennies so it will just be something fun to do and take it from there really. Later I wouldnt mind advertising some craftwork and see if that has a market as I usually sell that on stalls for charity, and well to be honest charity starts at home and I dont have a job right now so am chuffing broke! Crying or Very sad
Cheers!
If I get stuck in the coming days/weeks I shall holler your way! Very Happy

I sold something on Ebay years ago and that was fine. More recently I have used pre-loved, which is roughly the web equivalent of sticking a card in your newsagent's window. It's free and basically all the site does for you is avertise your stuff - they don't do bidding or any financial handling. You just ask for a price and wait for people to contact you. Same tips as Freda said - clear photos and lots of info. I've sold a few bits and bought a few bits on the site and I'm chuffed with it. Infact I found Ruby and her cage there! Very Happy

Good luck with your selling Alice!

HELP!!

This is about Amazon.co.uk. not e-bay but dont want to start another thread.

I have bought a tv off amazon from a private seller. They've got hundreds of reviews, 100% positive.
I gave amazon my credit details etc. transaction okayed....then I emailed the seller to ask if a remote comes with it, they replied saying yes then another email thus:

We can make the deal safe for both of us trought amazon !
To set up our transaction I need the follow info:
First Name:
Last name:
Address:
City:
State:
Zip:
Country:
Waiting your reply ASAP!

I've replied stating that amazon warn buyers not to enter into personal info exchange and asking why they want me to tell them if they've already got the money off my credit card and I expect them to send me the tv.
No reply as yet.......should I cancel the order???

As I had to rely on myself, I went with my gut instinct and cancelled my order and reported the seller. Sad

Exactly. I'd paid for it with a credit card, but I've cancelled it now and reported them. Confused

Fingers crossed for you Alice Smile

I tried ebay a couple of times and ended up losing money because nothing sold.

Which leads me to thanking Ed for his suggestion. Thanks Ed
