Yes i have 2 in my signature but not dating ones cos thats what I come here for They are sites which are all about me if people want to find out more about me rather than whats on here.

Dating sites...why would the owner of one site want people to advertise other sites cos that would take away membership from here...not really fair is it???

this site is completly free and owner as I suppose doesn`t have any income if someone will register or not so why asking about other sites should be banned ?

I think sites like that doing very good job helping others find eachother.
some peoples making big money on it (datingdirect), others peoples are not and we just should say "thanks" to them providing free service

Faceparty is a free site, but has some restrictions. But this site wins over FP becuase of the good discussion forum.

I was on a site called Lookitsme for about 18 months, and I loved the fourms, made great friends and went on lots of meets - however one day we were talking about gaming and I named a gaming forum I'm on - note GAMING nothing to do with dating at all, and the fuckers IP banned me for advertising another forum. I mean WTF????!!!! It was for games, has about 7k members of which me and 7 others are women. Why the fuck was a dating site even remotely bothered about a games site?? It seems you werent allowed to mention ANY other sites at all, which I think is total bollocks and a form of censorship, I totally disagree with that! You couldnt even link to other sites, such as a BBC article - then whats the point of starting a thread if you can't post a link to back it up? Stupid. It was ridiculous to be informed that you're not allowed to speak about anything else on the interent other than the site you were posting on at the time.

google search displays mostly poor sites whitch wants also Credit Cards.
wasting time locking for them, registering and in the last stage seeing
"PLEASE PAY to access to your mailbox" screen ; )
I think other members could be also curious about other services even though they are very happy (like You and me) using this really good site
heh, we have a little different view of this.
nevermind... :*

There is no other free dating site for the UK that has a decent number of visitors at the moment....

Either they cost money or have no traffic = not many visitors.

The ones with traffic only have many visitors as lots of bored 15 year olds login to kill their time....and are generally not suited for finding a date or meeting people in real...they often tell you "i just want to chat" or "i would never meet someone i ment on the internet" (no, not the kids of course..o am speaking of the women in their early 20s!)

I dont know a lot about adult sites, but what I have heard, they mainly consists of people who want to sell their pictures/dvds/underwear or who run "private" swinger clubs....or work as part-time whores. Those "adult sites" are usually only visited by a certain type of men - as women can usually can sex anywhere and from anyone - they dont need the internet for that and especially not adult websites.

There might be some exceptions but the members on those site are
mainly children who just use it to kill some time....and it would be hard to find someone for a date on there....at least I haven't when I tried them out.
Hey Toby, me being a bit of a noob here and everything, how do you feel about us even mentioning other sites whatever they may be? Or making links to stuff? Is it a bannable offence or are you not too worried?

This site, like many other free sites sells advertising slots. Those slots aren't free to the advertiser. Everytime someone clicks on one of those sites, someone like Toby makes money (I'm almost sure that's how it works), so any members leaving this site will be one less person to click on a potential money making link.

I don't mention 'the other' site I've used by name in here out of respect for Toby, no other reason.

Yeah I can understand that, however we are all grown up and should be able to freely talk about any other sites, no matter what kind they are without fear of reprisals. As long as we keep within the realms of legality, common sense and contribute positively to this site then I cant see a problem.

on the flirtbox.net website it doesnt quite work...the costs for hosting the website (not even including the work) are not covered by the advertising revenue.

the flirtbox.co.uk website has some decent revenue to cover the webservers i need for hosting this and other websites (a couple of hundred pounds) that have hardly any revenue.

but once I take the amount of time and programming into account, this it a loss-making "business".

the worst thing is, I cant even go on holiday without having a hotel room with dsl and to check the website 2-3 times a day......that's why I havent been on holiday properly for quite some time.

If I did some software development during that time instead, I would be better off...but that's what I do all day anyhow......

Instead of looking for "better" dating sites, why not think about what you are looking for and how you imagine your ideal dating site and post it here?

I think this is the only dating site where you really have an influence and many things that have been suggested where also implemented in the end...sooner or later..such as this forum for instance.

i am interested in getting as many people on the website as possible of course - but not because of the "money" through advertising, just because it is more fun the more people are on the website.

Of course you have more advertising revenue if you have more traffic, but you always reach a step where the costs of running the website increase or double.....e.g. sooner or later one server is not enough..then 2 servers are needed so you have twice the expenditures....then you need 3 servers etc....and everytime you change the server you need to install all the software and move the domain names...configure the mail server etc....
additionally you have problems with broken hardware etc...so there is always a lot to do and the amount of work increases with the amount of hardware and people...the more people the more support requests etc....

And this is just the technical side......last year I probably spend 5 days alone on other issues.....
