I'm surprised there was no mention - if you do a search on medical journal sites, most of them refer to the 'current trend' being attention to surturing, and post-op management through local massage, topical treatment, compression, etc.

Can I ask what advice did you get?

To be honest Darkle, I don't really remember. It was only 5 weeks from finding lumps to being operated on. The whole thing was a bit of a blur and the 1st few weeks after haven't been much better. I never really got the chance for it all to register and am only just now beginning to be more aware of what I need to do to help myself.

I think I'll have a chat with my McMillian nurse. I might be more ready to take in what i'm being told now:D

Red i got replied dont worry about hijacking if it helps then its fine, anyway it is still on topic.

I didn't get any advice aout wound care or what to do with my scars even tho i asked loads, they didn't give me anything to go one but then i hardly feel this is surprising when I have had no physio and i had to teach myself to walk again with a friends help!

Darkle, one op was at end of feb, other end of april. My scars look like frankenstein scars, thick raised hard red lines with hard tissue around them and dots either side from the stitches Sad I try not to dwell on them but they are ugly as hell and people have said be proud of your battle wounds but i cant be which is why i am so grateful for all the advice on here

Hey Han,
I am about to go through surgery for a second time to rebuild my sternum! Ouch!
There is something that you conld use as well as the vitamin Capsules (Good Call, they are fantastic) and that is Lavender Essential Oil... now you would have to get some good stuff like tisserand or from boots, but you can apply it to very new scars (which i do not believe you can do with bio oil) and you can apply it neat (most other oils HAVE TO be diluted in a carrier oil. Lavender will assist with healing, soften the scars and take any residual bruising away. I do not know if you are awaiting further surgery, but arnica supplement is something worth looking into if you are, as it can minimise swelling and bruising.
Hope that it helps, honey
take care
m x
